This must be the extended edition, the WHOLE airplane escape /Mexico/ scene is new to me. I've seen this many, many, many, many times :P This was one of my Dad's favorite movies. I grew up (an Army Brat) in and around the Army, mostly on US Army bases in Germany in the 1980s. All we did was watch movies on VHS. We had only one English TV channel the US Army channel "Armed Forces Network". 😛

seen this so many times. Never saw a couple of those scenes you found a bonus addition apparently. Didn't see them take acid and head to South America. I know you said you weren’t familiar with Warren Oates. He was a great character actor who sadly died only ten months after Stripes came out in April 1982. Check out The Wild Bunch and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia as well as Dillinger from 1973. Great actor and sounds like he was a cool dude. Judge Reinhold said on set of Stripes when cameras weren’t rolling Oates would tell the actors in his platoon stories about working with Sam Peckinpah and they were all blown away. Great actor sadly departed way too soon.

This is such a great movie. The actors didn’t know during the barber scene that they were actually getting their hair shaved. I finished Navy boot camp shortly before I saw this for the first time and was still going through advanced training and laughed my ass off. A number of things that came to mind for me: 1. When men get their haircuts everyone looks like Ox and Cruiser. No exceptions. 2. There are always more than one DI per company. Meaning the scene where they go to graduation on their own wouldn't exist. 3. You can NOT put the pin back in the grenade. It's also highly unlikely the Captain would have access to live ammunition in his office since it needs to be accounted for. 4. IRL he couldn't just lift the fence like that. 5. PJ Soles is my "future ex-wife". Honeymoon only should work.😍🥰😋 6. The segment when they go to Mexico wasn't in the original release.

The DVD version and I guess the BluRay version as well, had deleted scenes that were filmed but hadn't gone through final processing. At the beginning you had the option to include them in the movie where they were supposed to be placed for a type of extended cut. There was also a PG version of this movie that cut out all the nudity and added extra scenes NOT seen in the regular version to make up for the time, this is the version shown on broadcast television. I remember a scene showing the mud wrestling showers and where you went after the match to clean up.

"Lighten up, Francis." Fun Fact: According to Ivan Reitman in the DVD commentary, the scene where Bill Murray is loading the rich woman's suitcases into the trunk and he hits himself in the crotch was an accident. Murray's "Oh, my balls." was a real reaction. Bonus Fact: Bill Murray and Sean Young did not get along. Young did not like Murray's method of ad-libbing during scenes. He vowed to never work with her again. Bonus Fact: The US Army was actually very helpful and cooperative during filming, which surprised Ivan Reitman since the script depicts the military as being made up largely of buffoons.
