Stripped Down: The Brown Trout Project (Intro/Trailer)

For the past 13 years, we've been filming brown trout. Engaging in some of the more interesting browns, we've learned an immense amount about brown trout, their behaviour, their tendencies, how they interact with their environment and what it takes to catch them consistently. We've literally spent an average of 150 to 175 days a year doing nothing else as we've fly fished the province of Alberta, Canada, the south island of New Zealand, and touched on a few waters of Montana in the USA. This film is a compilation of some of our favourite moments engaged with brown trout and highlites much of what we've learned along the way. Great video. Just remember folks. You don't need to travel the world to catch monster browns. Anywhere the live as long as there's good feed and not a ton of eagles and otters there is potential for a monster. I've seen 15 lb browns come out of some pretty small rivers and tributaries. From New England to the great lakes to the red River in Arkansas. They always seem to be in way smaller waters than one would think

the beautiful brown you catch at 7:05..did it take the fly all the way down or in its gill...looks like its bleeding when you lift it....happens to some browns I catch...just wondering if there bleeding a little will they still be ok when I release it

That's a fish I remember quite vividly as you can imagine and no, it wasn't bleeding at all. That's something you can't control at all and all you'd be able to do is get it into riffled water asap. As long as it is more a surface trickle and not a deep gash or a punctured gill rake you're usually fine.

+Larry Wiggs Yes, there are both migratory lake, and ocean variety brown trout. the fish in this video are most likely residents of the river all year long.

ron grieco it is 50-50 Alberta, Canada and New Zealand. Brown trout are brown trout so we went with the waters offering sight-fishing or hatch chasing. The VOD can be found: vimeo.com/ondemand/browntrout

well the eel was the dead give away to location. I got the hell out of the river when I was fishing one NZ stream and an eel thicker than my leg and 6 feet long came towards me. Big browns for sure. I also hooked an eel once about 3' long. Ugly!
