Stripping Fry From TINY African Cichlids

In this video I go through our Astatotilapia Aneocolor breeder group. This is a species native to Uganda and closely related to many species from lake Victoria. The females of this species, and most Victorian cichlid species, breed at a very small size. The females in the video are only about 2 inchs long and can start breeding at 1 inch. Adult size is about 5" for males and 3.5-4.5" for females. This is a great species to breed in a 40g or bigger tank, or you can keep the males of this species in mixed african cichlid tanks. Alternative method is by using a faster. Remove the rubber part and insert female head down into a baster , replace the rubber part and gently flush the fry out. The baster method is particularly useful on females like P. Nichols and some tanganyika leptosoma types. They are little more delicate then Vicks. Female will often have few way back in her bucal cavity. If one let's her go for minute she reset the babies to the front and then they are again easy to release.

Depends on the species. Could be once a year or 2 years. Sometimes 3 years
