African Cichlids Breeding | The 3 Stages | Caught In The Act!

I got 2 jewels a week ago and couldn’t decide whether my large one was going after my smaller jewel but today out of no where the smaller one being harassed turned bright red and they’ve been inseparable👍 I had a hunch that was going on because the larger one was turning red and lit up from mouth to caudal fin with jewels. Beautiful fish fingers crossed I’ll have some fry. Might start calling around seeing if the local stores are interested. We’ll see what happens but I couldn’t believe that in a couple hours my smaller one turned from light olive with a few spots to fiery red. Just gorgeous fish and they’re in their own tank

I’ve got a female who I believe is holding eggs but I haven’t seen any of this happen, how do I know if they’re fertilised or unfertilised eggs in order to separate her? I see you have a Parrot. Is it male or female? Have you had any luck with it breeding with any of the other cichlids? CL Fishing I doubt they will be fertilized but you never know! I think she’ll just be holding her eggs & will eat them once she see’s there’s no male around. She could be holding from the store though,....although I reckon you would have noticed when buying her ya know

I have a yellow lad and a kenyi i think. Anyways i turner there lights on the keny was acting weird and the yellow lab was hiding under the rocks breathing heavy all the other cichlids in the tank are fine later that day the kenyi died and the yellow lab is still under the rocks breathing heavy its been about 4 days. Ron’s Outdoors usually within a few days if the female is holding or ready to hold. Are you trying to breed the fish or is there a rogue female in the tank? Haha that happens pretty frequently! Especially if you buy them young👍🏻

Ron’s Outdoors usually get a better hatch rate with a tumbler but either works👍🏻 a bit safer too as sometimes the female can swallow the eggs if she’s stressed

She will hold the eggs for 2-4 weeks after fertilization before releasing the fry. I wait till I know the female is holding then separate her into her own tank, then remove her after the release.
