Great video Dean, I would strip the head remove the valves replace the bent one's and lap them in. Extra content for your channel Dean, or send the head away to the machine shop and let them repair it for you. Christmas wishes to you and your family

Yeah like rob said strip the head and re lap all the valves, if you don’t see a perfect ring on the valve seat when lapped the valve is bent and needs replacing

I have repaired 2 Mk6 GTI engines where the tensioner has failed. Both had all 8 intake valves bent. In both cases I removed the cylinder head complete with the manifolds still attached. Then it much easier to disassemble it all on the bench.

love this the same engine as my octavia vrs and my cam belt snapped few months ago after water pump leaked on it. Gives me a better understanding of what happened and how it was fixed.
@StaticVapour5902 жыл бұрын
While I was replacing the belt, water pump and stuff on my Exeo (A4 B7 with 2.0 TSI) I noticed that it had badly worn timing belt idlers (those small ones), they felt like they could just seize up at any moment as they just barely spun. Damn that's tight spot, I thought setting the radiator support frame in to the service mode and hanging over it while doing the job was hard, but that's on next level. I did timing belt on my previous Audi as well and it had some shitty engine mount there as well, it wasn't so tight spot but just hard to reach. It had the "bulletproof" 1.6L

Hi Dean. Great videos. Just to say the steering rack on the mk5 golfs are really stiff without the engine running. I wouldn't change it until you have checked it with the car running. Don't want you to spend money needlessly. Keep up the good work.

Wondering if the cam journals are oil starved locking the cam breaking the belt as it won't turn. Hope not, though a used head wouldn't break the bank. Fingers crossed
@666markyboy2 жыл бұрын
this happened to me on an Audi Tdi
@charlesml32 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was thinking. I think the cam seized and that's what broke the belt.

You can unbolt the intake manifold bracket without removing the alternator. You need to remove the top rubber hose for the throttle body and you can access it from there.
@deanage19832 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it can be cheaper just to grab a second hand engine. Check the prices for each. It's not a candidate for concours so number matching isnt critical. Keep tbe videos coming always a good watch

On some engines the cam lobes can move, That may be worth checking if the valves are not bent...

Merry Christmas Dean. Would love to see the head stripped, valves checked, replaced , lapped in and built up. What about some home smoothing of the valve ports to improve flow?? Whatever you decide, we'll enjoy it.🎅👍

Merry Christmas Dean, yes like others have said I would just remove the two likely valves and turn the camshaft, pour some fluid and see if the other valves seal, replace the two bent one and all in, Happy New year mate and your family and thanks for the great content this year, cheers, andy.

Suspect it’s timing chain failure - remove cover to confirm - really lucky so little damage. Even the 2 piece cam belt cover is a complete arse. Cheaper to rebuild the head - get the injectors serviced
@kenomies50862 жыл бұрын
Injector service is not cheap. I guess because direct injection has higher pressure than regular injectors. I paid 350euros for the service on my S3
@orlandobarron65572 жыл бұрын
@@kenomies5086 most of the cost is getting to the injectors + cost of seal set - service alone in uk is £75 for all 4

@arvydasmamcenkovas77872 жыл бұрын
You should be able to turn cams even if valves are bent. 2 reasons why its not turning. First you have broken timing chain which is not letting you spin them round or what can happen with these is that head is seized due to no oil pressure. I would remove chain cover and lift the cams and inspect cam journals for any scoring. If this engine had oil pressure issue this head is scrap. Remove engine oil sump and inspect oil pump/balancer shafts too

Happy Christmas Dean and all good luck for 2022. I admire your bravery with such complex engineering to take apart…putting it back together properly is the clever bit! I just have to be safe and buy cars still with a manufactures guarantee!!…but years ago spent many an hour taking a lot of Fords and BMC cars apart…good training is a Morris 1300GT…only thin hands need apply…and fitting Quinton Hazel needle roller bearing drive shaft couplings is a joy you always remember!! Good luck! Richard😅😅😅

Common issue on the MK5 GTI is cold start issues…. Usually caused by the injectors. Put them in an ultrasonic bath and clean the inlets from carbon build up. 👍

Any reason why you didn't check the chain too? I had both the chain and belt, Inc tensioners ,idlers and water pump done on mine New cam follower, Uprated NGK's ,revo Intake, new PCV , Rev G diverter valve , high quality oil, 6.6 bar fuel filter a tank of 99 Ron and it made 222bhp before making 264bhp when it went in for stage 1 at R Tech ! Do all the right things to these engines and they will fly ! Also check the seal on the Vac pump where the Brake booster pipe connects, will fix that leak ..and also check if its a Rev A camshaft too, might have some issues with that Look forward to the results mate 👍🏼

Great video as always, the 1 piece cam cover is a nightmare, did mine last week, took a hour just to get that cover off. What a pain. if your engine is a axx (I think it is because of the 1 piece belt cover) your better off upgrading the head from a 2006 onward engine with a bwa code with Rev b cams, mutch stronger cams. The AXX also has forged pistons from factory and a higher compression ratio compared to the bwa engine. Just cams are a lot stronger on the bwa engine. Merry Xmas 👍👍.

Maybe some of the cam rocker lobes have moved depending on whether they were pressed on rather than cast solid?
@fazerstorm-oap2 жыл бұрын
Yes, depends on if it is a cast or pressed camshaft. Just watched the salvage rebuilds video of the berlingo partner with pressed cam lobes. They had moved all over the place but the valves didn't bend. Née camshaft sorted it.

Head bolts and timing chain VVTI pulley IS NOT A T50. It does look like it but the are actually a 10 ribe socket and OMG is the torque setting tight. You MUST replace these along the chain kit etc or you could find yourself back taking the head off again. I have just done this a few months ago on my mk5 BWA engine. Previous owner had change the belt twice but never the chain.

Happy Christmas Dean, and a great new year if we don't see you before then, also having each piston at top dead centre you could pour some brake clean or thin oil down the intake on the backside of the valves to see if any fluid leaks into the cylinder, if you know the valves on cylinder are tweaked then this could help check the valves on the other cylinders.
