Nice review. A 40 watt LED may have its uses for video but a bi-colour LED can be super useful for dragging the shutter when mixing with flash in still photography. This will let you match the WB for both strobe and constant light and the CRI seems to be very good.

Indeed, any time the modelling light might show up in your exposure, you might as well match the temperature of your flash! Past modelling lights always tended towards the warm side.

This isn't the first flash to support the X3 wireless sync protocol, that was the Lux Master and it makes a bit more sense on that device as you''r probably only using that on its own and it's a bit fiddly to set it up by hand. Also the "inter" modelling light setting is useful when you have multiple lights and you want to be sure they have all recycled before shooting again. In this mode the modelling light comes back on when the light is ready to fire. The beep isn't very good in this situation. Thank you very much for clarifying how the "freeze" mode works and actually doing measurements. I'd have liked to know what happens to the colour temperature especially at very low power.

Good find! It appears that we overlooked the Lux Master. In our defense, that flash is a bit of a novelty, which is not to say that we don't appreciate the mingling of retro and modern. We have at least one Fuji shooter on staff. :D And great point about the "inter" modelling light setting. Unlike the ready light, a modelling light set to inter give you a visual indicator that doesn't require you to take your eyes off your subject.

So I purchased this light for dance photography really hoping the freeze option would be a game changer, but if it's actually putting out less light that makes my job harder. Do you have any recommendations for a strobe that has a very fast flash, puts out a lot of light and has a Bowens mount on it?

Thats funny thats why I was hesitant on purchasing the original AD600Pro ...but there were some reports that people mentioned, the later production ones solved that issue already..so hopefully that has gone away with this Mark II as well..haha good thing I waited bc this one just recently released..lol

Great question! The short answer is that it is no longer an issue on the latest batteries, but who would we be if we didn't also include a long and nerdy explanation? The AD600 Pro battery has a low voltage protection circuit that is somewhat prone to flipping when the battery is stored in a low charge state. It is a safety feature that helps to prevent deep discharge and eventual damage to the cells, but it never felt like much of a feature when it happened because it has the side effect of your charger no longer recognizing your battery. There is a reset procedure that could be performed, and we have definitely done that for a non-zero number of customers. Luckily, the latest iteration of this battery has some sort of auxiliary monitoring switch that can reset the battery if it is left on the charger for a little while. For all those who might have older batteries, just make sure you charge them to around 70 or 80 percent for any long term storage and you should never have any issues.
