Stroke 101: What you need to know

Participants will have a better understanding of the definition of stroke.
Participants will have an understanding of the effect of their actions on the acute stroke treatment options for the stroke patient.
Review of types of strokes, symptoms of strokes.
Review of risk factors for stroke and stroke prevalence.
Discussion of stroke chain of survival including imaging used and treatment of the acute stroke. Review of LAMS and bypass to Comprehensive Stroke Center or thrombectomy capable center.
Video of stroke thrombectomy success story.
Karen Gonzalez, BSN, RN, SCRN
Karen is a Stroke Coordinator, University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and Stroke Certified Registered Nurse since 2015. She previously cared for stroke patients on the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center stroke unit.
Ami Miles, BSN, RN
Ami has been an Emergency Department nurse since 2004. She currently serves in various leadership roles and works clinically in the ED at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.
