😯 Your videos have been on absolute fire lately. There is absolutely nobody out there doing really cool content like this Joe. Previously you had to go 20 pages deep into some obscure thread on the forums and wade through foot-deep bs to find the good stuff. Dude I love this. Thank you.

Red - I initially watched the video to see how you would split the case, and by God the husqvarna case splitter worked. I have a 4600 on the bench, AFWIW, my saw had a base cylinder gasket installed. Your video had me transfixed and learned more than I wanted LOL.

I would think that machine crank might have a little too much stress on the rod. For an 80 or bigger. SCARY
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 Жыл бұрын
That much thinning of the rod is a bit much but I do have room maxing out the case to leave more material.
@nathanmcdonald1585
@nathanmcdonald1585 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that make more case pressure going as big as possible. Would that's be a small gain or considerable gain.

In many saw applications other than a limbing saw, I don’t understand why chainsaw engineers have chosen such oversquare bore/stroke configurations. I’m sure it’s about obtaining peak rpm and that elusive HP number. Trouble is, a saw doesn’t live at peak HP RPM in the big wood. They live in the 10,000rpm regime. If you look at the bore/stroke ratios of older 2 stroke motocross bikes, they ran a lot closer to square bore/stroke ratios usually favoring slightly oversquare to keep good overrev. Most chainsaws I’m familiar with unless they are ported extensively with a lot of machining will fall off the power curve easily making that peak HP number irrelevant. My point is if you can widen the peak power curve and build more torque in the 9000-11000rpm range, you’ll get a faster cutting saw. Longer stroke ratios will help provide that. Tuning your cutting equipment to this type of power curve is just as important, I;e taking rakers down more.

Most of the reason is packaging. Easier to fit a larger bore and shorter stroke in a small saw. Larger stroke takes bigger cases and cranks. And it all adds up to extra size/weight
@RyanMcIntyre
@RyanMcIntyre Жыл бұрын
You’re also applying 4-stroke results (in reference to bore/stroke ratio) to a two-stroke and the concepts aren’t consistent. In a 4t, larger overbore engines favor RPM due to valve surface area more than any one factor. Richard Holdener proved that all things being equal, longer stroke always makes more torque and Hp across the board without a loss of RPM capability. What that all means is that the engine’s RPM is limited by air getting in and out to a much higher degree than it is by stroke ratio. A 2t works by uncovering ports in the cylinder wall, a longer stroke would theoretically uncover larger ports per degree of timing, but you run into terminal maximum piston acceleration being your RPM limiting factor, which is related to the stroke ratio, but ultimately determined by stroke length - longer strokes means faster piston speeds, meaning you’re closer to the unsafe limits of that design. And packaging.
@Ceemysix
@Ceemysix Жыл бұрын
@@RyanMcIntyre I guess I can relate to that statement. Good information.

Stroke it Joe. Like you said the transfer is open longer. And longer stroke length makes more compression !! It takes both to make power.

Absolutely loving these videos... Chainsaws are like legos! (great analogy) Would you do a video of any crankshaft machining? I want to switch a coarse thread husky 61 crank to a fine thread so I can use a better clutch. That bungee on the crank was brilliant btw. Simple solutions are always better. Keep'em coming!
