LYRICS (FR)
[Couplet 1]

when i was 8, i never understood what stromae’s motives were no matter how many times i watched and listened to the lyrics, now that i am 15, i realize that he has describe and resumed our generation exactly how it is, so raw and so true, how the screens, the social media captivate everyone and i think that this idea was genius, not only for its concept but also for its warning to the viewers.

The song is great but can we also admire the Music Video. It's so creative and I love how there are many hidden meanings scattered in the video that symbolise something. It perfectly depicts how social impact actually impacts our lives slowly. There are many artists who can make a great song, but Stromae is just unique. He adds so many elements to all his songs. Each time, the ideas he comes up with are just so out of the box. He never fails to amaze me.

I’ll never forget this really popular and smart Tumblr user criticizing this song for being corny and simplifying it as “old person says not to use phone a lot just like every other old person, but really they don’t get that it’s just not that serious.” I felt so silly for liking this song at the time and felt corny for thinking this was a deep message… now in 2024 the message here is still so relevant. It was always a deep and important message.

I love that the Twitter bird's beak is animated to sync with the beat. It really represents that background, incoherent, omnipresent noise of social media. That it looks so damned angry all the time suggests most of that noise is rage. Amazing little touch.
@AnnSpecter
@AnnSpecter 2 жыл бұрын
Same! I also had a weird theory that in the beginning when the Twitter bird opened its beak, it was sometimes happy or sometimes angry. As it would represents the times when person using the twitter would ‘tweet’ their thoughts to the public both with positive or negative thoughts. But as time progresses, the twitter bird most of the time just open its beak in a angry like manner as it could mean that the person is getting very negative most of the time.

For all the English people, in the French chorus, they say: "Et c'est comme ça qu'on s'aime, s'aime, s'aime" And that's how we love, love, love " C'est comme ça qu'on consomme, 'somme 'somme" That's how we buy, buy, buy. But Stromae is so a genius that, in French the "That's how we buy" the "buy" that is "consomme" in French, the last two syllables ("somme") continues to echoes, and "somme" also means "are". So in the original chorus, with the auditory illusion, it sounds like: "C'est comme ça qu'on somme (que nous somme) " So basically, "that's how we are" Sorry if it's bad written, I'm not the best at English.

This might be realistic to his own experience. The way famous people (with thousands and thousands of followers) experience social media can be radically different from the way the average person experiences it. Most research points to social media making us more connected rather than less connected but that doesn't mean all relationships on social media are rich, many can feel just as hollow, like the people who we friended because they went to high school with us but haven't communicated with in 10 years. Stromae may seek personal connection but as a public figure social media doesn't really make it easier to make connections because he might constantly be bombarded with tweets. I do think he tries to make a broader statement as the video goes on. I'm not sure it necessarily hits the mark though.

Yeah being leftovers. It's kinda sad to see all these people sharing a constant flow of pictures on Twitter or Instagram just by the impression that it makes their life more interesting. I'm a computer scientist and a huge gamer, but I've taken a huge step back from taking pictures, I'd rather live the moment than immortalize something I've not lived fully anyway. Social networks have completely overstepped their purpose, and it's not even on them, it's on their users. The technology itself isn't bad and makes some good thing (sharing with distant relatives, organizing and keping up to date with news on what you like) but people have made it integral to their life to the point it might as well be stitched to them. There's also the reaction to the little girl that is interesting. At the beginning she's out of the system, she doesn't have an account or a device, and no care is given to her by the "social bird", she doesn't deserve to be even considered.

Actually, ''crever comme un rat'' (to die like a rat, with ''crever'' being a vulgar ''to die'') is a french idiom meaning ''to die without anyone caring about you'', with the undertone of the person not being even worth a look from its surrounding (much like a rat dying in the street). Hope I could help making this part even worse ! (Unless you guys already knew this, that is. Anyway, sorry if there is any grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language.)

This animation is so great. I like the distopian demonization of twitter, but primarily its the hand draw animation and character design that is so enjoyable.

Stromae is not a singer, he is an artist. He talks about real problems of the world and the humans. He leads his people by telling the truth by his art. Such a genius. Belgian people should know the value of him more. Greetings from Turkey to Stromae and French&Belgian people.
