Stromae is a singer from Belgium. For this clip, he choosed to play like a drunk guy (Stromae doesn't drink alcool at all), and was filmed by hidden cameras in a big place of Brussels, capital city of Belgium, place where a lot of trams pass by. He was first helped by a girl, then cops who wanted to drive him home. Belgium is cetainely the less racist country in Europe.

This video always makes me so sad. Stromae was only acting, but for millions of people this is the everyday life. Homeless and addicted . And judged over it. Life can treat you cruel. And you never know how it feels to walk in another persons shoes.

It's the most awful aspect of being on the streets. I used to be homeless, and the feeling of being invisible was more taxing than hunger or being in the rain and cold. I got out of it, and try to "do the right thing" with homeless people, if only just buying a coffee or something in the morning while walking to work. One recent event sticks in my mind and illustrates it quite well. It was in the days preceding the first lockdown for Covid, I go to the bakery and buy some bread, and two coffees, one for myself, one for a dude begging a bit further up. I get out, give the guy his coffee, and the dude starts crying. I ask him if he's ok, and he tells me nobody has spoken to him for the last 4 days. He wasn't even aware there was a major pandemic headed our way.

The true story behind this clip comes from another video that went viral where a rude « fan » recognized him in his car while he was eating and decided to film him and asked him to sing. Stromae politely refused so the « fan » went angry. The fact that this footage became more popular than his previous polished and sophisticated video clip made him crazy so Stromae decided to give people what they wanted to see. He gave us another buzz video. I’m watching your videos since Nightwish reactions and I’m glad you also react to other music languages.

oooh looooooove love love this video! i watched it a billion times! amazing! when you thing that only one girl tried to help him, he was already a star in belgium so everybody knew who he was. i's sometimes compared to jacques brel . He's briliant even during interviewes is always so peaceful and thoughtful ! love him! thank you for this reaction really ! in belgium we have a beautiful artist too, loic nottet , his last song "mr mme bruxelles" the video is in black and white whith subtitles (it's in french) for me it's a masterpiece. the music is similar to old french chanson , but the lyrics are so so strong !when he sing it live he sometimes finish the song crying !

Only time I've felt as bad as the character in this video, it was after a breakup. World losing color. Falling apart. That kind. Went to a bar by myself because I had decided that I might as well drink away my life, and the Uber driver did what you said - took a second and asked what was wrong. I told him that it was a breakup and that I lost someone wonderful. He said, "No. You didn't lose her, because she never belonged to you." Wasn't perfect advice and I was pissed at him at the time, but it was enough to help me cut through the self-righteous pity clouds I was lost in. Bunch of years sober years passed since then, and I still remember his face. Thanks for the vid and the advice.

I really like your comment that everyone started as "formidable". I believe that too. Stromae is an amazing actor. I hope he will do movies in the future. He certainly has the chops. He is often compared to Jacques Brel and with good reason. His way of "playing the role" of the character in the song is very unusual for a singer, these days. You have to go back to Brel and that generation to find this kind of interpretation. He makes you FEEL what he is singing. Amazing artist. We're lucky to be part of his universe.

What I get from this video is when he says “I can’t have children”. I think that’s why the woman (in the song) dumped him. And how many other women will dump “a guy like me”? At the end he says, “do you think I’m a monkey? Give me a baby monkey and it will be “formidable”. It’s heartbreaking!
