Us Belgians are just so damn proud of our boy we tend to overreact when people call him French :). To me he truly is an Artist capitol A. 'Tous les memes' , Formidable, Quand c'est, Papaoutai, Ta fête,... all timeless masterpieces imo.

Stromae is pretty well known in eurpoe , the reason america havent heard of him is he is too good , he is music is not your typical pop videos and musics and he speaks french and he is sticking to it which Im ao proud , so if he is not singing in english or releasing still no content video , then it is too complicated for people and america , Stromae is simply a genius

Background to the song. Stromae sings from experience. He suffered a severe depressive reaction, (side effect) to an anti-malaria drug that he was taking while touring Africa. This severely affected his mental health. The African tour and subsequent concerts were cancelled and Stromae disappeared for many years. He literally went from being the most lively and energetic young man; constantly on tour; to not being seen in public for years. With the help of his stylist wife and creative brother he set up his own clothing brand Maesart, (which I think is now also his own music label). Spent something like 3 years writing the songs for the new album Multitude; has matured, slightly restyled and reinvented himself and he's back!

When I was little I remember overhearing my mom tlking to my stepdad and their lover about some of the young women she helped through her work at a rpe crisis cntr. She said how these young, beautiful, well off women were just broken. That from the outside their life looked perfect but they were living with horrific depression, fear and anxiety. That stuck with me. As a teenager I was all in on my punk aesthetic & we were supposed to hate the preppy rich kids, but I remembered what my mom said and ended up making friends with this blonde cheerleader who was the biggest stereotype ever of a privileged kid. Also the sweetest girl ever. I know personally I’ve struggled with anxiety, OCD, PTSD, severe depression, etc, but it’s extremely rare for me to show ppl what’s going on inside. Like I have panic attacks at the dentist and they were completely unaware till they took my blood pressure and I had to tell them I was having a minor nervous breakdown. But that’s how a lot of ppl are. Our culture doesn’t appreciate seeing us as a mess. If we do freak out and ppl see it we’re more likely to film it & upload it to tiktok then to offer comfort and help. So we hide it. So it feels important when ppl who are on a pedestal, famous, let ppl know they aren’t ok. It’s got to be hard bc ppl will say what do you have to be sad or anxious about. But wealth doesn’t automatically bring happiness. It’s been proven that once you hit somewhere around $70k-$100k, any extra money after that doesn’t make you happier.

Stromae (Maestro) is not just a dude who have a half decent life. He is a musical genius who had to stop creating music for 7 years because the medicine to prevent malaria, Lariam almost killed him. He had a violent adverse reaction to it, hallucinations, psychotic episodes, and a wish to die. Lariam is known to trigger that. The only reason he is alive today because he was stopped from killing himself by his brother. 7 years it took him to bounce back from the adverse reaction to this drug. So, this song is much more than you give credit for. And a cautionary tale. Believing that the big pharma is harmless can cost your life.
