Possibly the most candid and sensitive star around, matched with the best interviewer of the past 20 years is a strong recipe for a great interview.

Came here via Chris Cornell and depression. Noted similarities, blown away how they are both so spectacularly beautiful and at the same time very tall, lanky, and depressed. I could pull up all sorts of descriptions, including amazingly talented but they were different eras and I prefer Soundgarden and Chris's music. But there's signs of the times they related to I guess. . And the hair on both of them. And if Chris stuck around he'd be as beautiful as Rick...I cannot believe this guy was born in the forties. I appreciate his vulnerability to even talk about depression,..and his sadness is palpable. He's beautiful. I'm gonna go cry for Chris now.... Rick stick around please. I'm just beginning to listen to you...

I remember Rick - fell in love with him on General Hospital, then there was the Rick on the radio with Jessie's Girl and then it just grew. I love his new music "What's Victoria's Secret" and his autobiography is eye opening! and a really good read, clearly written directly by him. I too have an addiction to Rick Springfield. This was a terrific in depth interview. Thanks so much! Just loved seeing/ hearing all the history. Awesome interview! Should be re-aired everywhere!

Rick said he developed his American accent when he took acting lessons not long after coming to America. I think the same applies to any celebrity that is raised outside of America but some though (Nicole Kidman, Arnold Schwarzenegger etc.) still retain their original speaking voice!

I bvelieve in God- my faith used to be catholic but I fell away from the catholic church and go to a christian one. Always loved Rick Springfield has beautiful words to a song- Jesse's girl- but my husband is Jesse and I learned to meditate too. I have a community of people seems wherever I go watch me, my husband too. I have had panic attacks I have had my stomach on my chest and have felt I have been watched since i was 16. but I am 61 and my husband Jesse supposedly had an older brother and have felt weird since but a man with green eyes I did miss. Never thought of it that way but no no your not that person but my name is Denise if that helps you finish my story of music and love and of cousre I love all kinds of music but the true meaning of LIfe was LF. and two Michaels I think that pulled me through- and one Dr. called Dan H at ksb- and the sinner the saint the man that left and was also ill said you should sing and continue his name LF I took it as Life as some people made a mistake. If I make some money honey I will give you some if your still good. Cause we all get sick sometime and misunderstood. That doesnt mean I will marry you. Just means- I have been around a few times too. B4 this goes further god night sleep tight glad this was before your time. Me old too.

@6:30- "I astound myself sometimes with my stupidity." I'm actually astounded at how well he summed himself up with that statement. Incidentally, it's called "dumb luck".. and obviously he has mountains of it. Next time, pull the pin on that grenade and just close your eyes..

What a harsh thing to say? but I guess it's easy to be a bully when you hide behind a faceless picture. Put a picture up and then say it. Otherwise, it's just throwing stones from a glass house.

Fern gal That IS my picture.. and it has a face too. The face is saying "I'm a bully throwing stones at Rick Springfield's glass house". Oops, I gave too much away. Now you know the name of his next big Top 100 hit. Incidentally, I can't stand dogs either.

Mo jo I'm not going to disagree with that. I'm most likely worse, even though when I was a kid I seen Rick's first performance on TV when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, it was on the Sonny and Cher show and I was about 5 years old. My mother used to watch that show every time it was on. SO, with that said, I will say again.. I think Rick was correct in his analysis of himself - and for that (to feed your obsession), I admire his honestly. Furthermore, I probably knew more about his history than the average hysterical girl because I have sisters who had his vinyl records in the 70's, among others. I heard all his early music as a child and honestly, it never seemed to really 'stand out' compared to someone like Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, who were also from that era (Pop/Rock/Disco). As I remember it, Cassidy was much more popular in those teen magazines. HOWEVER, I would still equate someone like Rick to *slightly more modern* musicians like Bruce Springsteen, John Cafferty or Mellencamp. He fits that catagory quite well. As I recall though, his 'rivalry' heartthrob or teen idol types were singers like Shawn and David (both) Cassidy or Leif Garrett. He never really parred up to the musical diversity or status of singers like Billy Joel, Elton John or the singers from groups like The Eagles and Boston. He was always more like today's modern day Pop/Rock camera market whores. Same hype, same prototype. ALL OF WHICH revolve around obvious marketing and money campaigns, rather than a seriously higher form of traditional no-holds-barred musical integrity (think Metal). Honestly, I still wouldn't even say he reaches Alternative status. His current Benatar tour is actually fitting. Might I suggest Chrissy Hynde too? Same boat. Yeah, whatever..
@mojo516310 жыл бұрын
ShadowⓋ So you're basing your current opinion of him on a teeny bop 70's idol image of him he had no control over? Have you even heard some of his more recent stuff or do you still live in the 70s? Cds like Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance or his latest "Songs for the End of the World" are kickass cds considering this guy has been rocking for 40 years and just keeps evolving as a musician. Even Dave Grohl has huge respect for him as showcased with many greats in his documentary Sound City. Have you see it? The song he wrote with Dave Grohl even won a Grammy this year. If that doesn't prove integrity I don't know what will. The reason he never gets compared with Billy Joel or Elton John is because he is too good looking. Not everyone takes him seriously or takes the time to really listen to his lyrics..they are brilliant. They get all caught up in the 70/80s pop idol stuff and write him off. He's never gotten the respect or credibility he deserves because of his looks. He's also a kickass guitar player. Listen to all of his music and then rethink your opinion. Better yet read his autobiography "Late Late at Night" for a 3 dimensional view of the guy. It's pretty heavy stuff.
