Five acre feet is quite a lot of water. Send some of those eager beavers to Arizona to floods some of those arid lands with cacti dams.

The Mažė is no longer a Kūdikis. What do we call Roberta now? Great damn work, but still a lot of sticks. Was this the dam near Saturday's dam? Never would I tell you how to down a beaver dam, but Bucky Beaver suggests using the shovel to remove mud on the water side early if the dam/mud is strong enough to stand on.

The base of the dam is what holds it up,..without that the dam would collapse by itself after time or after a lot of rainfall and the pressure of the water behind it would give way,..

@C4RV3 Жыл бұрын
If you start by clearing out the other side of the dam first (try to make the full side of the dam steeper) before you clear out the low side, it will make the pressure of the water work more in your favour and give you a better chance of a good collapse.

Hey there. Nice videos you make. Lithuania looks an amazing place full of nature and loads of beaver. I see you made your own raking tool, have you thought of creating a simple “harpoon” like hook. You “insert” it in the middle of the dam (the hooks will then open and grip the sticks) with a manual winch you can then pull the damm downstream and voila, damm collapsing fast and effortless.

Montana beavers make their channels into the woods so they can float a tree to their dam.

You did a fantastic job on the front of the dam. But if you look at your video at 2:30, 6:00 and again at 8:30 you can clearly see how much mud there is behind the dam. Without getting rid of some of that the bottom of the dam isn't going to fail. Once you get the front of the dam vertical do what you can to get rid of some of the mud on the back side.You can pull the mud back into the pond, just try to turn as much of the dam as you can into a vertical wall on both sides. As you can see, when it did collapse only the top of the dam down to the mud line on the back actually gave way. For the mud on the back side you might even try using a hoe. Or you could use a pwoer ful drill with the kind of attachment they use to mix concrete in a bucket. You just need to loosen up all that mud. But once again - great job! In the end you made a difference.

there was a lot more water there than I thought. Did the culvert at the road get plugged up.
@NicolaiAAA Жыл бұрын
I wonder if scraping up some of the area behind the dam, like all the mud and such, would help some of these stronger ones really collapse once you started undermining them. Just loosening up some of the mud and sticks at the back so there's less structure holding it back...hmm...

Hi if you have multiple dams in one stretch of water can you use the dam at the top of the stream to knock the others out that would make a great video seeing the water from the first dam overpowering and breaking dam after dam just a thought 👍

@indojake100 Жыл бұрын
Not every time has to be a big collapse. Most times it is the top 30cm that just plops off. Better to see you attack the dam than stepping back like a scared girl and wait to see if it will collapse.

you used to remove some dirt behind a dam so water would push on a dam harder, but you don't do it now. maybe thats the reason why it doesn't collapse
