I made a few changes after the video so be sure to check the decklist. Winter orb is a must when facing combo decks. There are 3 or 4 cards that I really want to get in there but I am just out of room.

I think the title would more accurately be called: Strong Commanders; Casual Decks.

@Poo_Brain_Horse5 жыл бұрын
Yeah as much as I love Aurelia "Boros Goodstuff" is far from a strong deck archetype. AUrelia + Helm of the Host is strong but requires him to cut the fluff and go all in combo.
@ms.sysbit55115 жыл бұрын
Station ah, yes, the op Harvest Wurm Gitrog and the Breya wheels decks. Truly, threats to fear. I’m not saying that it’s bad (I prefer midpower decks) but just label it accurately. I think the strongest list was the Golos one and even that was pretty much midpower. The generals might have high power versions but these lists weren’t exactly close to them.
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
We could have a picnic with all the shade your throwing. But yes I understand these were not the most powerful iterations of opposing decks. But I also didn't slam winter orb or armageddon so thats a thing. This game was really more about pressure and removal, no one kept their commander in play for very long.
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
The trick is knowing how to stop the combo decks. Winter orb usually does a great job. Most decks spend like 5-6 turns setting up. You ramp a little, get something big early, then slam winter orb and watch people die. Its glorious. But yes interaction is always the problem. The best games are when some one else comes out faster than me, and people fire removal in their direction. Its never as simple as do this thing I win, but I think thats what I've always liked about it. You gotta work for it a little bit, but I find the wins very rewarding.

instead of vandalblast try By Force you only rarely care about more than 4 artifacts anyways and the additional utility of hitting 2/3 artifacts for cheaper is pretty nice.

A really interesting one, but it doesn't work in this deck is Meltdown. I can definitely see the upside on by force. I think its more so the question of do I want a card that narrow. I have most of the removal in a way where its very flexible, but that comes at the cost of being slightly less efficient.
@Narabedla45 жыл бұрын
@@CommanderReplay artifact removal as a one off is really not that narrow. there are generally a lot of artifacts running around, just blasting two big manarocks for 3 mana can be very beneficial

Hey, thanks for the mention in the video. I decided to do more of an "Angels we have heard on high" build so he can just turn stuff sideways. Bad news is I won't be able to take him till next Friday, but I'll take a photo with him and his new commander. Probably lots of photos if he does well. Thanks again.
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
Sweet. I love that Angels deck. Best of all, most of them have vigilance. No turning needed! Anyway theres a lot of subtle beauty in that deck. Its a Boros deck that doesn't play like other boros decks. People expect you to come out fast and aggro, but excluding mana rocks or Smothering Tithe starts it will typically be a bit more reserved through the early turns, which means removal in the direction of other players stuff. But then the reanimation package gives the deck just incredible late game, and it rebuilds after a board wipe so incredibly well. It does things that people just don't expect in Boros and its glorious. Heres a few quick play tips. The first equipment tutor is almost always going to be Sword of the Animist, on a few occasions if mana flooded go for mask of memory. However I have added feast and famine, so as you get toward the mid turns you may need that, but early game always sword of the animist...it makes the whole deck work. The next tip, around turns 5-7 when faced with a choice of should you play aurelia or should you play another 6 or 7 drop angel, the answer will usually be the angel from your hand, and once you have 2 or 3 angels in play you cast Aurelia as the finisher. This goes a long way in people perceiving you to be less threatening than you are. Next beware of Burnished Hart tricks with Emeria Shepherd and Dawnbreak reclaimer. Reanimating it every turn is pretty busted. Finally, make sure to Miraculous Recovery at the last players end step, and use it on Reya whenever possible. Anyway those should get him going. Depending on experience level you may want to walk him through some of the decision points in the deck. Being sure to get max value from everything is really big deal.

Oh an I almost forgot. Helm of the host is the obvious combo, it adds a way to win the game when you are behind. But Adarkar Valkyrie, Aurelia and Sac outlet (altar of dementia) also go infinite. When Aurelia's trigger goes on the stack to untap, you target with Valkyrie and then sac it. It will come back and attack for the first time every time creating unlimited attack steps and unlimited mill. Plus the altar also protects your stuff from exile.

So we have gitrog and breya, both cedh top tier commanders, Golos, who can perform at Tier 2, and then PJ of course brings Aurelia. Oh pj....
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
Yeah they weren't playing top tier Cedh builds though. Those would of course be trouble. If they were bringing out the Cedh stuff, I would grab my akin bruse. It doesn't win everytime, but it wins enough to be a problem and throw a wrench in the works of whatever combo they are trying to pull off.

Got a deck like this. It is so damn painful to find slots for both sunforger and the right equipments. Not to mention decent ways to generate card advantage.
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
Yeah anything you add means cutting something else that you probably wanted. I think thats going to be even more of a thing as we continue to get more and more powerful cards in the format. Interesting time to be a commander player. In my experience. Sun forger, Feast and Famine, Mask of Memory and Sword of the animist are the most important equipments by far, with Fire and Ice right after those.

I'm confused, when casting Aurelia, couldn't you tap scavenging grounds for the filter, get two white, get a red from the mountain and sacred foundry, and then two colorless from the mana crypt? or was I missing something?

Sunforger saves another day
@CommanderReplay5 жыл бұрын
Just amazing. I remember getting into a spirited debate with Tomer about a year ago over the merit of Sunforger. Many people were on the "its too expensive to be good" train. Its 8 mana for the thing you need, when you need it most. It straight up wins games. You should see what it does in Syr Gwyn. Ive had people just scoop once they see it resolve and I've got like 8-10 mana. They know a flurry of removal is coming and anything they have that matters is going away.
@slavetophage16885 жыл бұрын
Felt bad for opponents, kinda mismatched power level here. Saw nothing brutal from opponents but a whiff on the rift. Yet, mana crypt, jitte, infinite attacks combo, Aurelia was cranking 90% and was arch enemy for most the game. Strong opposing commanders, casual decks. Like an 8 vs 3x 6's.
