I think if you’d had a session with an instructor first you’d have been much faster. All about body position and hanging off the bike - keeping the bike as upright as possible whilst carrying maximum corner speed. Yes upgrading the suspension would help but a top quality rider can go quickly on any bike. Would love to see you have another go in future!
@robertct06
@robertct06 Жыл бұрын
He definitely needs a stiffer suspension. With his weight he’s probably bottoming out really fast. I’d recommend he go to Dave Moss or ask a reputable company to suggest a spring for his weight.

Its not all about horsepower on a track. 600s are better than 1000s sometimes depending on the track size. Just gotta ride your bike more and get comfortable and confident with cornering.
@Overkill_dnb
@Overkill_dnb Жыл бұрын
Smaller cc bikes corner faster
@siraff4461
@siraff4461 Жыл бұрын
That depends a lot on who is on it. 1000s are much less bothered if you choose the wrong gear or get a line wrong because you have all that extra throttle to get it going and when you weigh a lot that makes even more difference. A very skilled whippet can get a 600 to go well on certain circuits but most of the time if there is an advantage to be had the larger bike will have it. The difference of 10-20kg in the bike makes a lot less difference to 400kg overall than it does to 250kg overall. The problem here is he took a busa on track. I love my busa but its really not a track bike. Something like an S1000RR would have done a whole lot better. I can't see an R6 or similar beating a superbike around that track with that rider.

To set up a busa for the track you could shorten the swingarm, raise the rearsets, install stiff springs, and firm up the dampers. Riding as fast as possible is not always the best way to learn either, because like with learning anything doing it slower teaches better muscle memory and reflexes.

Fair play for getting on the track Eddie, BUT to do it properly you need to make a bunch of changes. Absolutely essential that you get sticker rubber for the track and put warmers on between sessions. Check your PSI warm just after you have come in to see if you are keeping them up to temp or even need to drop the PSI a little. Suspension setup MUST be done, for a guy of your size it's going to absolutely make the world of difference and keep you much safer. Get yourself an airbag leather suit too, even if you have a small spill you can hurt yourself, especially the collar bone caused by where your helmet rim comes down and hits it during a crash. Dainese or Alpinestars are the gold standard for airbag race suits... You can get them custom too. Body position changes, you aren't moving around on the bike at all, tuck in on the straight and hang off the bike on the corners, think about getting your head down by your right hand when taking a right and vice versa with your left turns. Well done! Keep at it.

12:36 the reason your foot is hitting the floor is because you're midfoot on the peg (almost heel actually as evidenced by 5:38) you need to bring it back so that the ball of your foot is on the peg you should then naturally end up sticking your knee out without thinking about it but only when you're cornering as soon as you straighten out pinch the tank with your knees also make sure weight on the pegs not the seat for balance and again you should end up naturally moving around more with the bike, aside from that I find a lot of riders think they are leaning a lot further than they actually are (again 5:38 I can't tell how tight that corner is but I'm sure the extra 10 degrees you would gain on lean would've been better) it's just practice don't immediately jump to "how can I mod my way around this" ofc it's a busa it's not really meant for this in the first place but focus on what little technique improvements you can make do 5 laps focusing on that one thing then add another improvement and you'll be golden track riding is very different to road riding.

We can use weight as a valid excuse. but in same time, those racing lines are terrible. Braking points terrible. Needs a lot of practice to get that right, and probably would be easier to do on slower bike first and then build up. It's about technique, not horse power. Same in strongman. You do not go 500kg deadlift straight up. You build technique (and muscle obv) first with low weights.

Need to learn to brake hard in a straight line and turn in throttle out of the apex. Also, pick your feet up. Put your toes on the peg. Honestly just practicing hard braking will really get your times down. Learning your braking points and what the bike is capable of. Very last step is getting cornering speed up. Using counterweight to keep the contact patch of the tires biting. Have some fun learning.

I was there that day in advanced. Tough day for a first TD with the conditions. Definitely go Inters next time and get the suspension guy at the track to work his magic. If you can get heavier springs front and rear that would help for sure 👍💪

He needs a different bike, suspension changes won't do much on that long heavy thing and he's not ready for intermediate his line is terrible. Needs a good bike and to practice his line and turns for a few months, surprised someone apparently riding advanced gives that advice

@@martiangod I thought the same, a fast group rider should not be telling Eddie to be moving up to inters, his lines were terrible, panic braking, foot position on the pegs are wrong, crash waiting to happen, needs much more seat time before moving to inters after 3 sessions of a cold Donington

He won't learn better lines in Novice, probably won't in Inters either. You only see decent consistent lines in Advanced

@@LowsideLew hmm, I disagree, but only on a personal note, as I have extended track experience from cars for over 15 years, so when I transitioned to bikes, it is different of course, but the foundation is the same, so admittedly I had the upper hand compared to someone like Eddie, but still, he needs more seat time, I agree he will gain ten fold when he moves groups, but he needs to complete an entire day first at novice, that’s my take bud

Before I watched I said to myself if you get near 2 min that’s impressive, took me about 3 years to get under 2 minutes

Two things... How many cows did they have to use to make a suit for a man your size? haha... And get your butt off the seat and hang off! You don't need to drag a knee, just getting one of those tree trunk legs off and inside will shift 100lbs off the center of the bike and you can take the turn faster and reduce your lean angle at the same time. Good stuff though!
