The s9 in my opinion is the best budget cam of 2024 for beginners, but can still be used by the pros. I think Lumix knew the entire time that they would remove the record limits just to attract more attention around the S9. Overall the S9 does almost everything the S52 can do, but in a smaller body. Its a no brainer to own this if you ask me

@@brownwallet942 but it doesn’t have features, and l mount has sufficient lens range to cover everything

@liquaard2824 Do you know why the S9 had issues during its initial release? It was because the L-mount lacked an excellent lens to complement its compact body. The S9 only started to make sense after the release of the 18-40mm lens. The features I truly value in the S9 are the in-body LUT and stabilization. Maybe I can live with just 18-40mm lens if I'm being a minimalist. However, the XM5 is smaller, offers Fuji recipes, and has access to a wide selection of lenses, including the recently popular Viltrox Air series. For photographers and instagram users, the XM5 is more than sufficient for those needs

@ for photography you dont need xm5 you get some cheaper sony camera with good af , you use lumix to shoot videos . and in the professional video world no one gets kit lens for good quality out , you research and get the lens suiting your needs which the l mount covers sufficiently, and the major anamorphics have the support too

I’m honestly torn-I can’t tell if I love or hate the Lumix S9 yet. Coming from the simplicity of the Ricoh GR III, the learning curve feels steep, and I’m struggling to find my groove. Any fun tips or ways to shoot with this thing? I could use some advice from you pros out there!

I also have a GR IIIand will be getting an S9 very soon. I see the S9 as being slightly easier to operate than the GR III because of a clearer menu structure and more sensible control layout. I do love my GR III still, but the amount of times I hit that Macro Mode button by mistake and miss key moments for shots drives me crazy!

i was a sony a6400 user , just got s9 last week . This camera is insane , autofocus is solid , video quality is topnotch , if you are a video person you would barely touch viewfinder and mechanical shutter . i already completed 2 shoots and never had any trouble with both , there is this option called syncro scan in video and photo mode where the Flickering issues are evened out at night . i record audio with wireless go ii . perfect .playing around with 6k 30 . the cons i faced was the battery doesnt have enough juice for full day , have to get another one because the display light should be on max brightnes and 60 fps refresh rate. that is the only con that i faced . The high res photo mode is also insane

and this is not a compact camera , this is full frame which should be used with ff lenses , which is big , so portability doesnt make any sense. rest all good

I appreciate S9 of its design. It is simple yet really aesthetic. Its stabilisation is stellar. For video noob like me it is a good camera.

In the past, Panasonic had record limits that where set very conservative and allowed to record this limited time in all temperature conditions up to 40°C (104F). This was criticized a lot because indoor you often could record up to the time limit several times in a row and people asked to be allowed to just try to record until overheating. The G9-II was the first that did this and during the announcement this was explained in depth by Sean Robinson and Matt Frazer. There is even a switch for the thermal management between normal and high to decide how hot the camera can get before it stops recording. When the S9 came out, Lumix had already unlearned this lessen and it got limited recording again. Lots of people complained immediately and the limit was lifted with the firmware update. The question is now: Is it better to allow overheating right from the start or is it more pleasing for the customer to have limits and get longer recordings until overheating later as a gift?😉

If there’s any likelihood of overheating in NORMAL conditions, it needs to be communicated clearly in the marketing. People hype the Sony A7IV but it overheats far too easily. But likewise, it’s equally frustrating to be artificially limited if the camera is capable such as the Canon R5. For cheaper consumer cams, a “recording limit” that can be deactivated by the user like the S9 is probably the smartest way to handle it. Under promise and over deliver.

I don't at all get the comments about doing the G9ii before the GH7. You can't apply your comments about "communicating" to any other camera maker or business. They aren't in the business of 'selling less' cameras. They do things to sell more. And, exactly 0 of them "communicate" their release schedules. It's just a very weird take that I see regularly. Of course they release cameras in a way that they see selling more! That's what they do!

I’m not talking about communicating release schedules. I want more clear communication about the full capabilities and limitations of these cameras.

Anymore, I only care about 4k60fps at a decent bitrate. If I only needed 4k30, I could do that on an old camera.
I spent 4000 hours with the LUMIX S9 so you don't have to
