I'm learning a lot. After watching some of your videos, I am amazed that any of my knives can cut at all! : )

I stopped using stops a while ago except a coarse leather and compound for my kitcken knives. For my edc knives I either use my dads hand me down stone which is a soft metal impregnated with very fine diamonds (kinda like a diamond waterstone but different, its hard to explain) or my homemade kangaroo leather strop with .5 micron Hand American diamond spray. I hear good things about Marks stuff, never tried it but I can say that HA makes amazing sprays, they stay mixed fir months unlike others I tried that after a day or two all the diamond would be at the bottom.

Just received my 200,000 grit diamond paste. Have not used it yet. I have 6 different strops that I’ve made and use. This will be for my newest strop. Hear a lot of good things about it. Just a FYI...

Kangaroo leather is the best I've tried, especially for diamonds. I have a few cos leather strips that work ok with rouge but for diamond sprays or paste roo is the way. Bough a big piece of it and made a bunch of different size strops. Some 1x6 edge pro like for using in hand, some 2x6 and 2x8 bench strops for everything else.

I am very curious about Jende "nanocloth ultra" strips and their accompanying diamond paste

Enjoyed the video brother. Hand america also puts a green and a black they call paste but really it is a very thick liquid. A bottle will last several years and it will soak into your leather like a liquid. I use it and diamond paste but the green and black liquid is far superior over wax type compounds. Wish they made white also. Chief Knives To Go carry's this also. Hope you and all have a blessed day.

I make my own 1x6 and 2x6 kangaroo leather strops but I use them free hand with diamond or CBN sprays and pastes. I get very aggressive edges from those.

So.....if you had three identical knives sharpened to the same degree of sharpness probably with a guided system so there would be a consistency between knives, and stropped with different compounds and leather. In a blind test not knowing which knife was stopped with what leather and compound you could actually say this knife was stropped with this leather or compound buy using the knife which is the real test of the edge?

Love your videos and your finished sharpening is beautiful. As for leather, the belly is stretchy, and has a lower temper, is softer and you can alot of times pull it apart. The age of the cow and size of the side dictates the thickness and temper of the leather as well. As you move up the side towards the back of the cow, the leather temper is harder, more dense, thicker and less flexible. If you buy a "side" you'll get the vegetable tanned side, non split or skived and you can then pick and chose your desired type of leather that you want for a hard or soft leather application. You'll also get away from being sold mystery "vegetable tanned leather" that the seller does not specify which part of the side that the piece came from... It's similar to saying, "just give me a steak!" Every cut has its own qualities... same as leather. I love Tandy, we are lucky to have them. Thats my two cents. If I covered something that you have already... my appology. Take care.

He passed away, and was apparently succeeded by stropbros. I literally just ordered a 4 sided strop from them last night/this morning. I'm hoping the quality is still somewhere near what I'm hearing stropman's quality was
