I bought the same strop paddle on Amazon. A few weeks later I got a hand-written letter from the maker, thanking me for my purchase and inviting me to contact him if I had any questions or concerns about his product. Pretty impressive.

Just asking for clarification... So both sides of this strop are usable? I ask because in the instructions that came with it, it only mentions and shows the side with their Hutsuls brand name being used to strop the knife.

I ordered one. My first ever strop. The polishing compound is rock hard and doesn’t seems to transfer to the leather at all. Can’t see any green on the leather so I’m not sure if it’s doing any good.
@luckybowss2 жыл бұрын
u have to heat it up a little bit u can use a blow dryer and heat it till it’s firm but a tiny but softer than it works and spreads
@SMaamri782 жыл бұрын
@@luckybowss Thanks for the response. I'll try that. I did buy some new compound and now see what consistency it should be ...

@@SMaamri78 also it doesn’t work well on the smooth side

I’ve never heard of heating it up. But what I do and have learned from research is to use some isopropyl alcohol on the strop. Just a thin layer maybe one wipe until it’s visibly covered. Let it dry a bit and then put your stropping compound on while it’s still a tad bit wet. Try to go all in one direction with the compound as well. Gets on the strop better for a better all around strop. Happy stropping!!!

Just the weight of the blade is good pressure

First time stropping. You made it so easy and understandable. Thanks.
@matthewroberto29676 ай бұрын
No pressure really. Like your holding the knife in your hand loosely but still in control and just maintaining your angle and that should be plenty. Remember also that you want to go a little lower than whatever your angle is. So if you have a 20 degree knife you want to go about 2 degrees below that. Never go above your edge angle or else you’ll start to roll your edge and will dull the blade

Do you need to use polishing compounds ?

No you do not!

I think I went a little heavy with the green shit and it's started peeling and getting all over the blade
@matthewroberto29676 ай бұрын
You should just clean it all off And start over. And now you know what too much compound looks like. You really don’t need a lot of compound in there at all. The leather does its job very well as well. A little compound goes a long way

If you watch back, you actually do what you say not to do…lifting the edge up at the end of the stroke. Takes being very careful not to do…just an observation

You should be honing with edge trailing the same as stropping. The purpose of both honing and stropping is to "straighten" a curled edge caused by normal use, without "removing" metal.
