I belong to the people of measuring is knowing. I have an edge-on-up with test clips and measure every action I do. I strop on leather with a 7000 compound and notice that I have a sharper result when I strop at a slightly wider angle than I have sharpened and I use a little more force while stropping. Soon I will buy a Jende Kangaroo Leather Bench Strop with Jende Poly Diamond Emulsion 0.025 micron stropping emulsion to take the stropping process to the next level. I only do this after I have polished the knife on my Shapton Pro Stone grain 30.000 super fine. Sharpness freak for life.

I think you will see the improvement with the 0.025 after the 30K. You can really begin to appreciate the 0.025 once you put a blade to your face for shaving!

@@JendeIndustries In recent years, I have been studying how to make a knife really sharp without damaging its shape. Sharpening a knife elevated to an art. It is not only the sharpness, but also the uniformity of the cutting surface. I have 16 wethstones from 120 to 30,000 grit and am now going to delve into the really good stropping techniques. Every day I sharpen One knife, which I get from the local community. I grind 2 to 3 hours a day. I feel the knife and make it as beautiful and sharp as possible. I can't get below 70 BESS yet. I bought an Edge-On-Up PT50A sharpness tester for a few months ago and that's why I've gotten so much better. No fantasies or that I think something works better. To measure is to know. I only measure with the test clips, because with that you can accurately measure the measured value on the gram and you can repeat the measurement and come out with at most 1 gram difference. The trick is to measure as slowly as possible.

@@computeronzin Immabout to push you into the rabbit hole a little further 😁 Everything you said previously is spot on. I recommend adding some sort of magnification to your setup. I use a 200x USB microscope, but really anything is better than nothing. You will begin to see correlations between your Bess score and the condition of your edge of the edge. But allow me to plant this seed at this moment: there is more to sharpness beyond achieving a low Bess score (well I guess AFTER you achieve the low score 😃). Thinness and refinement work together, but are not the same thing.

Hi I have a couple of strops (one kangaroo and one nano cloth) and CBN emulsion from Jende. I have used the leather one for a while now. The surface is covered with a black layer now. How will I know the correct time to clean the strop and reapply the abrasive? Could you please also make a video about cleaning strops? Thanks for the video

Great question! The best time to clean your strop is when it no longer seems to work, or after a fresh addition of abrasive, seems to have a minimized working period. Cleaning can be done a few ways, rinsing with water, using some sandpaper, or using alcohol. We'll get a video working in the pipeline!

@@JendeIndustries I got some leather care cream as few guys mentioned in the forms that it is necessary if alcohol is used for the cleaning. They say alcohol takes off the natural oils in the leather too?

Oooooo lovely tutorial. I do have question tho. I had been using your product for a long time now and it works great. But as i finish on the 1/4 micron following the correct tehcnique, presurre and angle, it becomes hair whittling and I was on a slicegasm🤣, but as i went to the 0.025 micron again following the same correct technique, presurre and angle, it loses its hair whittling performances, it cuts but not better than the 1/4 mic. I find it quite strange somehow. I need help tho.

This depends on a number of factors. More common is that unless you shave your face with it, you probably won't feel any tangible difference after a certain grit level while testing it on paper or even arm hair. On the other end of the spectrum, abrasion resistant steels can experience carbide popout, where the edge suddenly goes completely dull. To counter that, use a slightly higher angle when stropping, and stop just before you say"one more stroke should do it".

I like them both :) I use Nanocloth strops loaded with Jende Poly Diamond Emulsions after stones, then will finish with clean leather or roo, depending. I personally don't like loading my leather and roo strops, but plenty of people do and have great success with it.

@@champagnejunior If you want to actually shave, 0.5 micron is a little more for hair whittling edges. 0.25 micron and finer will get you more suitable for actual face shaving. However, it matter more about what you are doing before the strop. What is your normal progression and method of sharpening?

@@JendeIndustries i buy and try 0.5 micron realy nice stuf for my bark river edc cru-wear . now i would like to buy to do the last sharpening i hesitate between 0.25 0.1 0.025. the 0.5 gives me a nice result on a convex blade which cuts very well but not like a razor. very happy with my purchase, the work is done quickly without forcing. I had to wait more than 24 hours for it to dry and I put the 7 ml on a 21x7x2 cm it is all black and has absorbed everything is this normal?

@@champagnejunior The Jende Nanocloth is thirsty at first and usually takes a good 2-3 coats to start. 7ml on the 210x70 strop is going to use the whole bottle. 25ml for the 2x6 and 210x70 strops is a much better choice as you move forward. It will always dry black with maybe a slight gray haze no matter how much emulsion you put on, too. As for the final grit, 0.5 micron gets you the hair whittling sharp you now have. To go to hair popping, the 0.25, 0.10 and/or the 0.025 micron will do that. Many guys with Barkies will go to 0.10 as the final grit past the 0.5 micron.

What do you think of stropping on plain leather? I have found that it works nice after I have used a pasted strop first.

Personally, I prefer to strop on loaded nanocloth strops and then finish on clean leather, either cow or roo. But plenty of people use loaded leather strops as well. It comes down to personal taste and what you want to achieve.
