It has source material (ie. it's not 'made-up' by the anime team to fill in space). It's a side story, and honestly does add depth to the characters, especially the orcs, who get very little screen time in the main series.

Falmuth likely has nobles below the king that control more land/people than all of Blumund. I got no idea how many times I've re-watched this anime since it ended back in September😅😅 (I'm so excited for the movie and season 3 already) and I just want to share one little information that they probably kind of forgot or I guess purposely left out? for the curious ones like myself but haven't read the manga or LN True dragons like Veldora are spiritual life forms just like spirits and demons they originated in the spiritual world and doesn't have a material body in order to manifest their forms in a material world like the one rimuru and the others in they have to incarnate themselves into a "medium" the body that veldora used in ep1 is a body made of magicules and (as he claimed in the manga) he doesn't need it in rimuru's stomach so he dissolve back into magicules. spiritual life forms that stays in a material world without a material body will see their energy dissipate they'd eventually vanished but they will just revived somewhere in the world and unlike demons that will revived with their memories clear and personalities intact true dragons revives with hazy memories and they would have their personalities reset they would be a different being so... yeah I just want to share this for those curious about this anyway😊

The anime version is different from the manga version I saw. In the manga, Rimuru took long in the cave so his allies are worried especially the three beastketeers. They are alarmed by the long gone of Rimuru and the revival of Veldora. They did think something might have happened to Rimuru and the Storm Dragon is somehow connected. They intend to enter the cave but saw Rimuru and Veldora coming out. Then the introduction. But to be honest, I like the anime introduction of Veldora than in manga. In the manga, Veldora's introduction doesn't have much spotlight.
