Structural Engineering vs. Architecture: Which one to Choose

Rooted in civil engineering, a structural engineer designs tunnels, buildings and bridges, using technology, engineering principles, and 3-D structural analysis. This position focuses on the engineering calculations of what it will take to build a safe structure. An architectural engineer provides advice about strategies to reduce noise, meet building codes and problem-solve structural design issues. This position is concerned with what the project will look like at completion. Often, a structural engineer works closely with an architectural engineer to make the final project come to life.

In critical situations when human life is at risk is far better to count with an engineer than with an architect. In many instances engineering is essential while aesthetic is optional , example if a bridge needs to be build to cross a river with difficult ground conditions or if it is needed a to build a cargo navy port, or a dam that will provide water to several communities or if it is needed to develop a building that needs to resist strong winds or resist certain earthquake conditions then engineering is the way to go. If we talk about the 7 new wonders of the world the capacity to endure so much time up to this days for each of those constructions is due to the great application of structural engineering while the beauty is thanks to their architecture.

Hi sir, finally I'm writing my thoughts down here. Your channel has really inspired me. I spent a whole day going through your videos when I was preparing interviews for a site engineer role abroad, I'm soooo excited about this role. Even though it is true, I didn't realise how much this industry is worldwide saturated more importantly, how this has an effect on the everyday life of Indian engineers I grew up in India and 7 years before completed my B.TECH(CIVIL- ENGINEERING) and now I am doing normal civil engineer job in india !! This is so embraced and I feel this is a headache I still can't move abroad I am trying it. I want to encourage Indian engineering students, especially those from the Indian community and with lack of English barrier and also it being their second language, to follow their dreams to become an engineer in Abroad. Only one chance to give me I will definitely perform ,if any way to guide me

Structural engineer is very difficult than Architecture.You can't keep people safe from earth quakes forces by architectural drawings only Structural engineers ensures multi story buildings are safe through calculations from wind and seismic actions.Structural analysis and know which building material was safe than mere drawings from architecture.

Yes,,str engr is very difficult,,but I like very much str engr,,but I can't deal with mathematics with deeply😔,but I can solve structural analysis problems,I can design RCC members,,and I can find STR loads,,but mathematics only problem so Please give me suggestion,,PLS reply back,,

In my country of Bulgaria we call structural engineers simplyconstructors. The architect designs the building from top to bottom and the constructor estimates how much concrete, metal support and other materials are needed where for the building to stand and be safe.

Both are different.Architecture is non-engineering whereas Civil or Structural Engineering is Engineering.Structural Engineering is one of special discipline (branch) of Civil Engineering.

How did you know? Did you took architecture degree? Architecture has some structural engineering math-related subjects pre-requisite to architectural design. And that includes calculation of axial and lateral loads. This is why the narrator mentioned that they are part-artists and part-scientists. Usually, architects collaborate with structural engineers by giving architectural data for in-depth structural analysis.

Good video. But I don't agree to all the points. 1. Architects does not earn more because of the yrs they spent before license. 2. Depend on the country, both likely spend similar yrs. Archt. requires an m.sc before license while a str. engr need to first do civil engineering prior to specialization. He needs to be a chartered engr first before seating for 7hours structural exam. Under 4yrs post graduate experience. 3. Unlike medical, the institutions need to front for higher salary policy. There's no law that they most earn lesser than the Architect. In terms of risk, the str engr takes more responsible.

@@subhasishaich8669 Structural engineering is good if you like math and physics. It not dead easy neither is architecture. But if you are looking at residential and small 3-5 storey projects, you can do architectural work for those stuff in India by being an engineer also design cz you know structures. If you want to do elevation and planning of huge structures then you have to be specialized architect.

Great decision. as a civil engineer i believe studying civil ( more specialazation structural eng) before architecture is more realistic as you understand the importance of safely building it then use your creativity to make it asthetic and pretty as well.

Study architecture first. Once you graduate, a lot of subjects will be credited from other math subjects. you can pursue your civil engineering for 3 years. Unlike civil engineering as your first schooling, after graduating for 5 years, you will take architecture for 5 years also, that will take you 12 years to complete including training. But i warn you, most students can't finish architecture ending up dropping them because they were not artistic or creative enough. So, i suggest you think about it before pursuing. Choose one. You can't serve 2 masters.

Structural engineering requires undergraduate and master's degrees. Also, you have to take three long exams. These are Fundamental engineering, professional engineering, and structural engineering exams. Structural engineers study math, physics, mechanics of materials, and structural analysis, while architects only care about how the building looks. So structural engineering requires more education than architecture. Architect earns more because Beyoncé earns more than any scientist!
