This is great! I currently do a LOT of dressage. Since I don't have my own horse, I've been riding a TB who's currently going Novice but looking towards Training and his owner has been having me do a lot of dressage schools and fitness work on him, so these past two episodes are just what I'm looking for!

Can you do an episode on how to get your leg still during a canter? Because I have a major problem with moving it

Shiloh569 just a tip is your try different stirrup lengths and do bareback riding to make your leg stronger so your leg doesn't move

Hi I know you posted this comment 4 years ago but i found that using a stirrup with a wider base helps to keep mine still, also bareback or no stirrups. My trainer makes me constantly squeeze him on in canter because he slows down and tries to break into trot and that has helped quite a lot too

You all have really helped me. I look forward to every episode. I only wish you all knew how to do a lot with walking horses. i have been teaching my walking horse to trot (going semi-ok) and this has helped me prepare for what I am wanting to do with her :D

my horse takes almost 30 to 40 minutes to get his hindquarters going and accept the bit. i try to warm him up as good as i can. 15 min. walk, 10 min. trott and canter with long reins, walk-trott transitions with slighly contact to the mouth (slowly pick up the reins while doing so), the same with canter. many circles, serpentines or just go around the arena randomly changing directions, legyielding.... inbetween i reward him by giving him the reins when he reaches down or even just chews on the bit. and still he is having trouble with his hind end. i do not sit the trott at the moment, he is not ready yet to carry the weight as he is coming back to dressage from a leg injury. but what can i do to help him get his hind end going? shortly after he accepts the bit, i come to the warm-down because i dont want to ride him for hours. 1 hour maximum on the horse, including warm-up, work and warm-down.

schneggilein89 some horses have problems with the high end. My horse show the same symptoms but I found a conclusion by warming up shorter with all gaits and long reins and changing directions, so the body is "warm" even when he is not rounding the back and activating the hind end. Therefore i ride backwards ore sideways because the horse learns to carry the weigth better and move the high end more under the center of weight. So my horse knows this exercises, i don't know if your horse do. Maybe train it from ground, so he can balance himself better before. I hope you can understand this, my english is not perfect^^

Dodo Behrchen geht so ;)) spaß. it got better, i just give him a Connection to the mouth and keep my hands down in the warm-up, he likes that better than long reins. Training is now 45 minutes including all excercises and warmup/warmdown :) he's round in the back now as well and very comfortable to sit his "powerfull round back" trott :D

I have a HUGE problem with holding a good frame. How can I improve this? Most of the horses I ride have been jumping most of their lives and will not respond to my hands. Am I asking the wrong way?

You need to back your aids with the reins with your legs too, think outside rein inside leg, obviously keeping contact on both reins you really have to make sure that you don't let your inside rein go long when you do it, just light pressure on the outside rein with the inside leg should make them hold a better outline to the inside. It won't happen over night though

Oh! Oh! Question! Working vs. medium vs. collected vs. extension! Can we do that one some time? Maybe not next since you just did a dressage one, but in the future? And if you have any tips for how to make a forelock braid not look like a knot tied by a monkey on a sugar high...cuz mine definitely don't look like that or anything... :)
