I am a server at a restaurant we have an inside quote, that we are technically one step up from prostitutes. We are definitely service workers. This movie hits anyone who works at restaurants so hard, because the context of the absurdity is true.

I'm a dishwisher who works in the restaurant business in my area too. I know how it is at times and know how pretentious the whole thing can be. There has been many times where I wanted to quit and find another job due a few reasons. We're definitely service workers like you mentioned and sometimes, people don't appreciate the hard work we do.

I'm an ex server. I over stand. I'm not saying I would die for my job, but I understand. Food service is a brutal job, always trying to please people whose entertainment is to brutalize the staff. I am surprised that there aren't high rates of suicide in the food and beverage industry. 😢

Fun Fact: the cheeseburger scene is the only time that someone is eating real food (the food through throughout the film was props). Everyone was so hungry that John Leguizamo ended up ordering burgers and fries for everyone. And I so ended up making a juicy cheeseburger and crinkle fries after watching it for the first time!
@UnlicensedOkie8 ай бұрын
It was real food It was just cold much of the time They did tricks to make it seem fresh The only person who had to eat everything was Nicholas Hoult He said the worst part was the different oils that he had to eat in the bread less bread plate scene A legit French chef was brought in to make all of the meals for the movie and to help Ralph Fiennes get into that mindset

The cheeseburger scene has never made sense to me because they chose to include 6 words, "There are no substitutions at Hawthorn!" They did not have to include this line, but they did. Why? For a character like the Chef, this would have overridden any and all fond memories from some distant past.

anya's character, an escort or whatever, knows how to become the person that her clients want and that saved her life. in the chef's case, she played the unsatisfied customer that just wanted to eat and wanted the chef to cook something so simple as a burger, and in turn she made the chef feel what he felt before all the pretentious bs. anyway what a nice movie, great reaction as always!

What I loved about this movie is that it doesn't do that "The villain is actually making a pretty good point" thing that a lot of movies do with their villains. Everything the chef does in this is wrong, like definitively WRONG. As you guys said, none of the guests were "innocent" per se but none of them were so guilty they deserved to burn alive and that was what gave it it's impact, the villain was just INSANE and not just insane but realistically, quietly insane. Up till the end of course.
@miriam837610 ай бұрын
Being insane doesn’t mean you’re wrong. The movie is a critique of capitalism and the rich, and while Fiennes is definitely out of pocket, he didn’t find that space on his own. The pretension and justification of the rich treating poor people like crap contributed to him ending up there. The whole point of the movie is that Anya Taylor-Joy lives because she sees the value in reasonable consumption rather than in excessively consuming anything the way the rich might. She only takes what she needs and what she can reasonably pay for with her own labor, and it creates equilibrium.

I am aware that some reactors were confused about why Felicity was there so allow me to explain. Felicity represents everything wrong with the business and how customers act. She, unlike Chef, came from a rich background and also unlike Chef, she never had to work for it since everything was paid for her. She also flat out admitted to stealing from her boss, which why would anyone need to do so if you're rich and making more money than most people. Unless if you're just a greedy person, which is the type of person Felicity is. Also note what while we all can agree that Chef Slowik is indeed the main villain here, he's not the one who set this whole thing into motion. That was all Katherine. Which is pretty wild and sick. She's the real villain in this in my opinion. True, Slowik did try to sexually assault her but her plan to kill everyone, even those who had nothing to do with it, really shows that she's just as fucked up in the head, if not worse than Julian. Least Julian admits that he's a shitty person lol.
@ragtimeraver10 ай бұрын
There are always cult members like Katherine willing to go to the extreme to impress their leader. I'm not sure she would've come up with such an idea if she had never been exposed to Slowik and his intense cult of personality for years.
@JeshuaSquirrel10 ай бұрын
Many people also miss why the actor is there. It's not simply that Chef Slowik didn't like the movie. The actor betrayed his art. He knew it was a bad movie and participated anyway.
@mst3KGf10 ай бұрын
@@JeshuaSquirrel That and while Slowik may have grown disillusioned with his art, he still gives it his all. So he finds a fellow artist half-assing it like Leguizamo's character did on that film utterly offensive.

No. I don't think the soue chef's are brainwashed. The chef profession is a very cutthroat career. These people gave up friends, family, relationships, hobbies, joy and so on. These people are simply broken. As bad as these guests are (excluding Margot) the kitchen brought on its own misery by continuing this particular path. These people have nothing to go back, and probably believe there is nothing to look forward to.
