Thank you so much for this really great and helpful video. I've watched all the videos on Color Grading AppleLog, but none of them explained it as well as yours. Sometimes, after going through the explanation from the other videos, I was left with the feeling that my videos were poor in quality and exposure. But no, they are not. When I use your instructions, I get wonderful results. 😊

Okay so I want to thank you for explaining the input colour space being rec2020. There is not a single youtube vid out there that explained that or even changed the colour space in the HDR. Would defo love to see more Apple Log color grading vids

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I was wondering if I should create more since this video isn’t too popular, but I’ll definitely try to create more! If you know anyone looking to grade Apple log if you refer them to this video I’d greatly appreciate it! :)

I like this video the best out all the tutorials I've seen because you explain every little thing and go step by step. Thank you so much. New sub. Any chance you can do a tutorial on color grading and editing for d-log taken from DJI pocket 3? No worries if no.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge (you really have made it quite straightforward,) … it has helped me bring myself up to speed after a 30 year hiatus from working in Los Angeles in the motion picture industry working in actual film … boy has technology changed over the years … used to be a gaffer/production manager … but now I just wanna focus on directing short film format - with an eye on longer formats. For my purposes, the iPhone 15 Max Pro is all I really need to tell a narrative story - and with your instruction, I do see a viable way back into the industry (I kinda have insight in that area) … again thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I wish you were around 30 years ago, but then again the technology wasn’t there either.😮

bro, I had to subscribe holy crap I’ve been looking for this type of tutorial for so long. Literally never saw anyone go into input rec 2020. I figured that out like two weeks ago on my own and it was messing everything up for me. I want to produce short films on my iPhone just due to lack of budget right now and I really need to focus on like a print cine 16 Will you be doing any videos like for a movie type of short film like Vintage look for iPhones soon ? I’m like really interested in seeing what you create

I actually have a few video ideas for iPhone/smartphone filmmaking that I've been structuring. I haven't started on production yet, but I'm excited for them! I would also love to do film looks created on iPhones and Smartphones, but as of now most film-look recreation apps have a paywall, so most people would have to purchase the apps or make subscriptions to follow along. I could still try it if people are interested, but usually, people are more interested in cheaper alternatives to follow along too. Let me know what you think!

@@fujicinema I’m so sorry I really lazily wrote that. I never know if someone will respond. Lol. Dude so first off I saw a lot of your content man. it’s really interesting because it seems like you did your due diligence actually learning the theory and then making it simple. Most people just say copy me and you’ll get this effect As far as short film and film emulation. I think what I meant was, I’ve been learning so much about the film look from your channel. But a lot of the content was on the Fujifilm, but I was still able to translate it on da Vinci. However, I would love love love love if you did like some videos that kind of were able to get some like close-ups on people, sort of like portrait style videos or honestly even like a little fun, short film of you making coffee at your home. Just something that shows the power of how you can really get the iPhone looking when you push its limits. I’ve just been trying to practice doing that. I’ve seen some crazily color graded footage here on KZbin. That’s been motivating me to try to get to that level with the iPhone. however I think I struggle with getting super sharp and very contrasting looks. Basically just not very well color grated. A couple things I did really change the game for me recently One using the black magic app to control it manually Also, getting the right exposure The videos look very crisp. It’s just the film that I need to master and then I can if I can really successfully get that look with the skin tones and everything that’s always viral with the cinema print 16 on Instagram. I just don’t want to purchase it if I can do it all on my own which you’re teaching us.
@fujicinema

@@mattmjlg5053 Yes you can get a film like look with your iPhone. With getting the look you want it takes practice and creativity in your grading. Overtime you will be able to to see what works and what you need to improve. And I will be doing more with the iPhone, though I don’t want to spoil any of my plans. Good luck with your color grading! You’ll improve over time!

Thank you. in the project setting and color management section, what should the color space and transforms be? - color scineec: DaVvinci YRGB - timeline color space: davinci WG/intermediate - output color space: Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 is that correct? and then have 2 color space transform node. first one is Rec2020 Apple Log Davinci Wide Gamur Davincin intermediate and the node at the end of the structure would be Davinci Wide Gamur Davinci intermediate Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 // is that correct? and if we wanted to use dehancer, we put it in the middle and choose DaVinci WG/Intermediate as source? thank you again.

@@daaniyaan8484 This is a great question! I actually made a few other videos that touch on this like the skin tones video and gamma shift video, but to answer your question here… Usually I use DaVinci wg/intermediate for the timeline color space The output color space I use rec. 709-A since I color grade on a MacBook (I go into more depth on why that is in the gamma video) Color science I use the default DaVinci YRGB And then yes unlike in this video I usually have an input color space and an output color space exactly like you described! Rec. 2020, Apple log To DaVinci Wide Gamut/intermediate To Rec. 709, Gamma 2.4 I hope this helps!!

@@fujicinema thank you for the answer. watched them both. have two question. 1. why using quicktime for exporting? why not casual mpeg-4 mp4 ? the problem as you said is for QT? so if we like export in other format then it doesn't matter if it's Rec709 or not. right? 2. If you wanted to use dehancer, you would have put it between those two color space transform right? and the source for the dehancer would have been DaVinci WG/intermediate.. right?

Also, doesn't the film look Luts need need an output gamma for Cineon Film Log? So shouldn't there be a CST from Rec709 to Cineon Film Log?

While that is true not many displays if any displays are rec 2020. most displays are either rec 709 or p3 meaning any rec 2020 outputs will look strange on displays with smaller color spaces. I hope this helps!

Why not just use color grading ,contrast, saturation etc on the same node? Might be stupid question but im stupid so 😂
@fujicinema
@fujicinema 8 ай бұрын
That’s a good question, most people do this just in case if they want to move the node to a different area of the grade which can effect the sequence of events in different ways. In one node everything happens in a certain order. For example, let’s say you want to saturate before tinting the image. If you only use one node, the tinting happens before the saturation which gives a different effect. You can test this out next time you color grade. Along with this, if you get further into a color grade and feel a certain node isn’t working you can just turn it off. This is also useful with masks which work based on one node so you need multiple nodes for specific masks. Overall, it’s good to use nodes to separate things out to turn on and off certain adjustments to see what works or to blend adjustments in certain ways or to add masks and effects. It makes the workflow less of a headache usually.
