I removed the 3 pin connector and using a gray 50 amp connector and I got an extra volt with #8 to the battery. Easy to take in and out of the truck. Used a 6800uf cap

I took around 6 hours with the old video for my cobra 29 chrome I have upgraded internals however done to mine but man oh man all that static that i use to get once i grounded and did the wire runs through the mirrors on a t680 took me forever but the longest part was the sanding but i tell ya after doing that and runnibg the power cord down to the batteries man oh man a world of difference now i plan to get a stryker 955 and or Ranger from the Petro down by blue flame in ATL but these videos are life saving thank you brother for all the input

I have an older first generation Stryker SR 440 when ever I find the old 3 pin type connectors that can be opened up I snag them up. Then I drill the hole to accommodate 10 gauge wires solder them in heat shrink everything. Not sure I would try the capacitor swap because my soldering skills aren't very good anymore.

Thanks for sharing man. On my 955 in the dump truck the volume that I hear in the cab with my speaker or without was cut in half yesterday with a smell of burnt electric at the speaker jack. I noticed while listening to others my power was dipping into the 11.5v range when it started happening. I think something is fried near the speaker jack but haven't seen anything real obvious yet. In the very far right hand corner it looks like a surface cap is gone. The schematic shows 2 there but only 1 is present in my radio. Its right to the right of the speaker jack with the radio upside down of course. I've long suspected that I need a power wire upgrade also.

The original power cord had plastic fuse covers that wear out do to amp draw. But best thing to do Rremove the 3 prong from radio put Anderson powe chassis mount in radio .

You'd probably have to do it like the Rangers are, not sure You'd get much more if any, unless you went with a D-Rail tuned radio.

That's what it take some times. In this video we installed the capacitor wrong (kinda). It works like that, but it installs on the power pins inside the radio. 1 leg to the negative and the other leg to bridge the 2 positives. He will send you a card with a KZbin link and show how he does it properly. You can do the ground straps without the solder pot. Just do it the old fashioned way with solder and a small torch.

I’ve always been told run your equipment directly to the battery using fuses both pos & neg…Today’s over engineered junk creates a lot of problems & static. Hell, if you run your power through the fusebox, even a shitty light bulb can create havoc!

I have never used 10 A.W.G. wire for a 12v. battery connection. I assume battery lugs for the battery terminal post bolts are available at hardware stores?

You may not be able to stop all voltage drop. But with a better power cord and the capacitor greatly improves.

Hey man. I have a Stryker, and I’m getting excessive static normally around the 4 range. Changed out chargers, etc. I have a K10 predator antenna with generic Wilson Coax you can find it any truck stop. Is there anything I can do to reduce the static to a minimal?

I would say buyer beware, I just ordered the cord and capacitor this week it is not the same power cord that J Rich has. I did not get a 10 AWG wire, I got a speaker wire cord that appears to be of the same thickness, but does not say 10 AWG. I am not saying that it wont be a improvement, but I think you should know exactly what you are getting when you order products. I will say the transaction was fast and was shipped fast.

Big Rig Radios will make the power cord to the length you want. Just the cap and cord are worth 10 watts together on stock vehicle wiring. The cord, cap, connecting the pins, and wiring to the battery is worth another 15+.

Yes, however, don't remove the factory capacitor. Put the new capacitor where the power pins are inside. Bridge the 2 power pins with the capacitor.

Negative side of the capacitor to the negative pin and the other leg on the 2 positive pins? @@jrichtruckincbtips i think what mat is saying is that you took a to a 2.59 diamter conduter [10 gauge ] and reduced it to 1.63 diamger [14 gugage,] i guess another way to look at is lets say you rant a 3 inch pipe of waters for 50 feet and then reduced 1 inch right before you got to your destination, technically your still getting more flow because there is a less resistance over all BUT if your gonna go 10 awg go all the way, i ran 10 awg right to the solder point, now there is no disconnect BUT. . with no reduction

@@jrichtruckincbtips defintiley, that actually brings up a very intersting point. on certain high power inverters that are pulling well over a 100 amps, the manual will say can run thinner wire for the negative , for example 2 00 awg for the positive, and then 4 awg, for the negative, this also baffled mine because i thought that a circuit needs same current thru out the whole circuit, but i guess that not true, i know a lot to no more than most, BUT No nothing comparied to the engineers, out there, just did your mod 10awg to the pins, new cap and then beefed up the traces and man what a difference [on a quad 5555nII]

@Mike Rivera JR this was not a radio that I bought, just a test of what it will do before any tuning or mods. The power cord came from Big Rig Radios out in Phoenix AZ. However, Zane said we placed the Capacitor in a different spot than he does. He doesn't replace the factory cap, he uses the 4700uf cap to bridge the 2 power pins, then the negative leg to the negative pin.
