George Diller's safety briefing at 3:57:10 should remind you that space travel is glorious and exciting but still dangerous. The price of admission!

In comparison with the juvenile, infantile, abysmal commentary we had to suffer with the Dragon demo 2 launch, it is a joy to have measured analysis and information, as per this video. Hugh Harris, Terry White et al must be spinning in their graves. George Diller, we miss you...

@Mikel-ender64 How could you call the NASA commentary boring? The information provided throughout the coverage was interesting. George Diller, the Launch commentator and Rob Navias , flight commentator are two of the best. I do miss the chatter back and forth with the launch team , missions control, and the shuttle Astronauts. Giving information during each phase of the countdown I find fascinating and how can anyone complaint about the constant updates of flight status during the ascent. Just listening to missions control talking with each other was engaging. Maybe people need to have more entertainment than just having great information. In the great words of George Diller, This is Shuttle Launch Control.

Matthew Travis, good video. I found out the definition of Godspeed. It means Best wishes to someone starting a project.

i heard it meant god's help and speed to reach orbit that is how scott carpenter explained it as why he said it ... he was CAPC OM on john's flight ( or at least at blast off)

Atlantis, the workhorse of the shuttle feet. Also the lady who took astronauts and repairs to the Hubble.

You are wrong. Challenger was the workhorse.

Is there a direct link to NASA TV for this? Just wondering, because if not, and this is the only existing copy of this video, I'd like to maybe file a FOIA for the full NASA TV coverage.

The funding for this pasrticular mis sion was first non-existent. And there was only ONE TIME before, in 1983, that the Space Shuttle crew consisted of only four people.

13:36 - kinda sad to the shuttle on the crawler for the last time, Atlantis was the 2nd most used of the orbiters with 33 missions and definitely the lucky one of the fleet after sustaining damage to over 700 of its tiles and also losing 1 complete tile which should of destroyed the orbiter on re-entry like it did with Columbia but luckily there was a metal plate which took a beating but somehow kept the heat out, quite fitting Atlantis got to end the program

i never understood those "Built IN Holds" why didn't NASA just adjust the Countdown clock to adjust for the Hold times ,
@nicholasbenge25968 жыл бұрын
The holds are built in to ensure if any unexpected errors arise they can correct them to ensure a launch occurs is probably why. Also the Go/No Go took a while as they polled in Houston and Kennedy.
