I’m not defending Southgate who has failed to create any discernible pattern of play in multiple tournaments but there is no other league in Europe with the competitiveness and physical intensity of the premier league. It’s no accident that our best performances in a major tournament were in a mid season World Cup in Quatar. It’s probably made worse by the fact that we tend to value athleticism over technique so when the physical sharpness isn’t there the inferior technique is starkly obvious.
@Forksake826 ай бұрын
@@ianrichards1839 you say you're not defending Southgate but proceed to give excuses for him. I don't think it's about players being more tired than lets say the Spanish. The Spanish players play as many games domestically and in Europe until the very late stages consistently winning European trophies. If we look at this tournament, England when they were behind raised their game and could argue looked physically fitter than the opposition but as soon as England were level, they sat back trying not to lose rather than use the momentum and go for the win and in my opinion that comes from the manager who is cautious. Spain were superior and won every single game due to the clear structure and superb technical ability. England limped to the final with arguably the worst football in the tournament and really Southgate should shoulder the blame and resign.
@ianrichards18396 ай бұрын
. I’m absolutely not defending Southgate. His failure in club football speaks for itself. He is the definition of mediocrity and was definitely a significant part of the problem but I’m old enough to know that England’s underperformance relative to the talent available in euro and world cups goes back way before Southgate. Every single foreign player who comes to the premier league comments on the unrivalled physical intensity and that every game is full on. At the top level even a 1% difference in sharpness matters. Do you think every problem has a single cause ? If only life was that simple.

Lucked our way there, 45 mins of good football all tournament, leading for 34 mins the entire comp, one shot on target in each euro finals. Under Gareth we are passive, ponderous and absente of structure and attacking ideas. His loyalty to underperforming players and in ability to react in game is a huge issue. Bare minimum with this team is reaching finals, what he has done hasnt been success but the bare minimum.

Yeah, that's true. But if you noticed, De la Fuente lined up essentially a B team for that game, possibly pissing the Scots off so much that it led to their first victory over Spain in 40 years. And of course, Spain repaid the favor beating Scotland in Spain at the end of the qualification phase.

Germans were booing him Adrian! Jesus. Research. It was even mentioned in game play 😂😂 why would England fans have beef with Cucurella? 😂😂 poor, from a so called journalist.

At the end of the match again Toney's expression towards Southgate was not happy with his decision in keeping him on the bench when Kane was clearly struggling throughout the entire game. Kane was never a threat and why England were effectively playing with 10 men and explains why Bellingham was knackered, bent over at the waist gasping for air. At 1-1 why not bring on fresh attacking players. Getting to a final is flattery as it hides overhaul tactics and performances
@bignallend16 ай бұрын
Southgate saying they were tired - might have something to do with the fact that bellingham, foden and saka had to do all the running for Kane. And when we did break Kane couldnt even get in the box.

No style no mentality no tactical nouse no leadership players look clueless it all stems from a defensive tactically inept clueless manager...his grace has been individual players bailing him out...getting to a final flatters the players and manager the truth is its been a shambles...he starts Kane lets him not do anything then takes him off...lucky draws has masked an inept Southgate who has instilled a tactical clueless confused mindset in to thd players who don't quite know their own style or identity...this shows going behind constantly never bossing games...stark contrast with Spain who have an identity a style a tempo and boss games to win 🦾

What can we say though?! how many times will we say this?. England have world class players no doubt. All of the above names are world class imo they have proved this so far right upto the final. But as in football, the best team does not always win, or wins you trophies. I like the team too i am a England fan. When Southgate took over all those years ago, we had a team that was just been dumped out by Iceland rd16. That spelled the end of Hodgson then Allardyce came over did a game then bumped off. In steps Southgate , things change coz they have; 2018 semis, 2019 semis, then 2021 final lost, 2024 final lost. Where dowe go from here?..Only Southgate knows. we shall see!

It all comes down to fear. At 1-0 down, we had nothing to lose (again), yet as soon as we were level, the fear of losing the what we had, prevents us from attacking and the very thing were were afraid of happens anyway.
@cha91656 ай бұрын
It's not fear. Don't be silly. It's tactics we weren't attacking because of southgate, imagine if we had a bit of pace from the start Gordon, palmer, Watkins. Look at the subs everytime southgate subs we score. He starts with the same unbalanced team, poor tactics, defensive style. Gareth was going for extra time and they got caught. The style is to sit back at 1-0 or 1-1 and not score again. It'd southgate
