Beautiful luggage Stu. All my RAF kit was issued in two duffel kit bags (green canvas) back in 2002 and I still have them now. Duffel bags are so easy to carry around - hand strap for lighter loads, shoulder strap for heavier or just stick it on your shoulder! Just remember to pack what you need last in the bottom !!!!

That does look a useful and stylish artifact. My Dad always called them kit bags, what the army called them in WW2.

Always known as kit bags by those who served. But duffle bag is also appropriate.

Well done Stuart. I began riding in mid 60s. Still pleanty of WD stuff around then. Used to get Mk 8 goggles for 12-6d while I favoured tank drivers goggles (2s) for just popping about, they had an amber tint that made it look sunny, even when it wasn`t.

Just bought the cherry colored duffel. Beautiful piece of luggage ~ all strapped down to my '86 Honda Rebel 450CMX. I found my own way to get the straps to securely fasten, not too tricky at all! High quality and meant to last a lifetime, not one doubt.Enough storage to fit my big JBL and clothes for the weekend. Your review cinched the deal ~ thank you, once again for the solid review and recommendation! Cheers from Litchfield Park, Arizona, where you can ride your motorcycle year round!

Hi Stuart just received delivery of the touring pack with 2 side panniers & the duffle bag absolutely beautifully made. Keep up the great video's. I bought myself a RE Interceptor a few months ago & now planning a trip down the West Coast of Ireland from Westport where my grandparents were from. Back on board at 68 years love it. Cheers Michael

When I first started to ride in 62 I used a 'skidlid type crash helmet and an Erwin flying jacked ( cost an arm and a leg nowadays) plus those bloody awful gauntlets that acted like funnels that were purchased from an Army and Navy supplies store. Later 'Derry boots' gave good waterproofing..far better that leather. nobody worried about crash protection....wasn't available anyway. Lunch bags were the really good quality canvas army satchel type bags. Lots of good 'stuff' from those stores ... a goldmine of gear in-fact. Bikes!, well, James, Francis Barnet, BSA bantums, Greeves even C11Gs. a neighbour used an American WW2 supplies Indian with sidecar...Then came the Japanese invasion....I can see it all now while I'm writing...

Very classy kit bag and your analogy of motorcycling post war is so correct it reminded of the company that used to advertise on the back of all the Pride and Clark where you could buy a sheepskin flying jacket for about £5 them were the days but i couldn’t even afford that then.

Looks nice, but the first inner flap is the wrong way around. The top should be over the bottom so water doesn't funnel into the bag if your slow to add the waterproof cover.

Bags fine as it is, as Sourav said rain drives on a bike just as likely to run up as run down at even low speeds. I think rather than try to make an issue of it, you just put your rain cover on if it looks like rain. Not rocket science!

Beautiful travel bag, especially with the waterproof cover, and how it fits over the bag. I never imagined that the proliferation in the use of motorcycles, had started after the 2nd war. In 1920 there were many motorcycle factories that failed with the great depression of 1929. In fact, the avalanche of equipment and vehicles that were available after the conflict, made commercialization cheaper for the less well-off strata of the population. I really enjoyed your report, Mr. Stuart!

Hello Stu. Once again another fine video. You have turned me on to TripMachine and Goldtop, both of which I now love. I was going to pass on the duffle, however your demo has convinced me otherwise, it looks very functional. Another great video Stuart. I wish I'd seen this 10 days ago as I just bought a big ol' plasicky bag for two thirds the price and although it holds twice as much it has no style whatsoever. That top fastening is first class so I might get one anyway.
@PampersNorway Жыл бұрын
looks perfect. To bad the fold seems to be the wrong way around so that any rain cached in the closing flap will flow into the bag. if the ring was on the bottom flap and not the top flap it would have been better since the water can just flow thou the folds and of the bag with gravity. If it is unclear what i am referring to then go to 10:20 and think waterflow and what gravity would do to a larger amount of water like a short, sudden and intense downpour.

Hi Stuart, nice vid as usual. I've been buying items from them and following watching the Trip Machine site for a long time now. Since they notify previous buyers of new stuff, I knew of this kit bag which has been out for a while and I considered it, as it would suit both my Enfield Trials and my Triumph Speedmaster. Although it looks very nice, the downside with all kit bags of this design is the end opening which makes it awkward to get stuff out that's packed at the bottom if you need to. Much more practical is the same shape but with a full lengthwise zip which greatly facilitates access to all the contents. I'd probably get one if TM made it in their usual nice leather style. regards

Think all us gentlemen of a certain age started of with military surplus. Still swear by a lot of it with my Norwegian tops, long johns and para boots, hard to beat for warmth on a winter ride and far cheaper than all the techno wizardry that becomes unfashionable next year! It's still some of the best kit you can get in my opinion, designed to be robust in all conditions and ideal if you don't mind not looking like the latest fashion model in a glossy magazine.

I always wondered why green bikes are unlucky in America. An old biker told me it's because, veterans returning back from the war seen their friends taken out buy snipers on OD Green Harley-Davidson. That's why when they bought a surplus bike, first thing they would do it's to paint the fuel tank.
@whittlad4 жыл бұрын
Great review Stuart and a beautiful piece of bike luggage. My only slight concern would be water ingress on the opening and I think an internal waterproof bag would have been a useful design feature. That said, the outer cover looks like it works as it should. However, it turns a fantastic looking piece of kit into a brown plastic bag - dam you English weather😉

Very true about the good prices on war surplus bikes. I've just had a look at a 1946 copy of The Motorcycle and they had an advert for ex Canadian and USAAF Harley Davidsons for £95 or about £2800 today. Brit bikes would be even cheaper.

Odd you mention hipsters. I've only recently learned that I've been a hipster my whole life, and never knew it. I was wearing flannel, and Redwing shoes/boots my entire life, riding Triumphs since the early 80's, and I haven't been clean-shaven since early June of 1992 (my last day of military service). The difference is, I make it all look good. lol

Does water channel inside the bag on the open end through the arrangement of the closure flaps? If the closure ring was on the bottom flap and the top closed onto it would just channel away from the bag?

Looks great! The size would work very well for a weekend trip! Can the toggle location be changed to the lower opening flap? Water always runs downhill, and I was thinking the top flap over the lower would shed water past the opening. Maybe folding the right side third and finishing up with the left would shed anything to the rear. Again the duffel looks amazing, thank you for bringing another item to the channel.

I have bought a saddlebag and a tank bag from Tripmachine. Both during the introductory price/ pre-order period. I do like their functionality and they look great on my W650. Motorcycle luggage is unfortunately expensive. However duffel bags usually are the most affordable options. Although I think this duffel bag from Tripmachine looks great, it is a bit overpriced.

I’ve always liked this stuff, but I’m not sure why. Speaking as a person born just after WW II, I’d suggest the further away from ‘45 we wandered the less we appropriated military gear for pragmatic reasons and the more it became driven by hipster fashionista. In America, for a shorter time, a similar phenomenon occurred after Vietnam. It would be fascinating to know more about this spoils-of-war aesthetic, why it lingers, and what it says about us and our tribal culture.

What a nice kitbag!! OK, Stuart...I subscribed your channel due to my interest in Triumph motorcycles. However, after all the talks of gearbox issues and lack of customer service I made a decision to have a look at other brands, coz I really wanted a new bike for next year. Well, ...this wednesday I picked up a new Yamaha Tracer 900 and I love it!!! Triumph's are lovly bikes, but I really need something under me that I can rely on! :-). One more thing, the dealer where I got my Yamaha also sells Triumphs. They are kept in a livingroom style secluded area not for the common man it looks, and that just pisses me off big time... Prestige bikes only for people who can afford to have them living their life in the repairshop. Sorry Stuart for being a bit negative, but again, Triumph bike have the best looks but.... I will keep on following your channel even do I'm not riding a Triumph, coz I love your videos, humor, sarcasm and all the nice acessories you rewiev...
