I like the 10 minute headache question. Not only does it seem ludicrous to not take the 10 minute headache, but such intuitions are only strengthened by then passing it through the asymmetry of pleasure and pain, making it seem even more ludicrous to pick the 10 minutes of mild pleasure. I can appreciate meat-eater honesty during debates rather that ridiculous reasoning and excuses. Someone who is honest with their part in animal suffering is more likely to except veganism down the road. You don't have to love animals to empathize with their suffering. And, in addition, recognize that it doesn't take much for you not to participate in the suffering.

@@spatrk6634 there are a significant amount of vegans that said, at one time, that they could never give up meat. Many point to a delayed realization days, months, or years after being introduced to vegan arguments. It took me 25 years for it to make sense to me, morally.
@spatrk66342 жыл бұрын
@@keithh23 only reason why people go vegan is if they are sad that animals need to die for meat they eat. thats the only reason. hence vegans only appear for a short while before going back to eating meat. and they are always from cities. city kids disconnected from reality and nature. i lived on a farm as a kid, killing a chicken and eating that chicken for lunch same day is perfectly normal thing to me. you either do that or eat corn all day, every day. orrrrrr, you feed the corn to chickens, and eat chickens and their eggs.. ohhh when my grandfathers goats would get too old for milk. oooh that was a feast. i remember going with my great grandmother to milk the goats, and hoping that one is too old for it. greatest memories of my life. morals are subjective. world is not black and white. there are no only pure good and pure evil actions.... no matter how hard you hope that you can talk about morals behind eating an animal, that argument wont help you. same as it doesnt help to convince religious people that just because bible or quran says that stoning of gay people is moral. it doesnt mean it is. but to some people. its perfectly moral. to them, it would be immoral to not stone gay people arguments out of morality are pointless. someones subjective idea of what they consider to be good actions vs bad action.. do you kill mosquitos? or do you feed them? what do you think it would be moral thing to do?
@keithh232 жыл бұрын
@@spatrk6634 I would argue that many farmers are more disconnected from reality. They'll say things like animals give their lives for us, they don't feel pain or suffering, they live a good life, etc. Its the only way to justify it in their hearts. Yes, morality is subjective. But inconsistent morality in oneself is called hypocrisy. Saying morality is subjective like the way you're using it can be an excuse for doing anything immoral like stealing, rape, murder, etc. If questioned, all that you have to say is, "my morality says its not a bad thing." Saying animal abuse is wrong and should be punished is inconsistent, morally,, with eating animals when you're best argument is that you like the taste. Pest control is a different argument that has its own justifications or solutions. The animals we eat and wear are not coming after us.

This guy is not a good thinker at all. The fact that he would make the argument that "suffering is good", because you get good things out of it, as a justification to let animals suffer, shows that he doesn't actually spend a second to think of the reason he values anything. It would take a second just to ask yourself, "would I endure the suffering of an intense workout if I didn't get any health or cosmetic benefit out of it?" And the answer is obviously fucking no. Only a masochist would say otherwise.
