The ratings never did this game the justice it deserved. Looking at games from the early 2000s, this one had so much cool stuff compared to others. The time period wasn’t really that long ago but note that cell phones weren’t as common, computers weak in comparison to today, and engines bringing limitations to what they could do back then. With how quickly technology has evolved, people seem to forget that it wasn’t always as good as it is today. When you see those ratings and reviews saying it’s ‘muddy’ or ‘bland’ You might assume they know what they’re talking about and that the game isn’t satisfactory- they probably complain about every video game they play and ignore the fact that these older action games were ahead of their time. I was born in ‘05, so this game is older than I am- though, since I study into this stuff and appreciate it, it’s even better to hear the notes from the developers. It’s almost like listening to a podcast, but from a different era. It’s amazing how it was only 16 years ago- but compared to what it’s like today, seems like a whole lot longer. I’m an IT student and artist, a junior in high school, and a gamer since I was tiny- I feel as I can relate to these guys and it would be so cool to get to talk to them someday. Maybe I’m just a geek but I really enjoy this stuff and I feel that I always will.

fun fact: one of the people who helped make this game, Allen turner, is my advisor and sometimes professor at DePaul. i wonder how he feels about the supposed remake and the amount of attention it is receiving

You should ask him if Wideload thought of making a sequel to this game and why the zombies of the prisoners are the only ones that have unique voice phrases.

Thanks for this. I remember this game as a friend had it in highschool. Imagine my surprise when i discovered how rare the game was 15 years later. A very expensive birthday gift later and I got my hands on the xbox disc. Thanks for uploading this so I can listen to the designer commentary without having to be in game! Or find all the hippo heads. All in how many files were ripped? Appreciate it.

In Remaster versions you have to be on Insane difficulty to find the Hippo pickups to hear these lol

@@swarmland I believe they also unlock for all difficulties once you've beaten the game. I don't recall seeing the little hippo heads hidden through the various levels until I replayed the game.

If you beat the game, you can find these as collectibles. I think they are just pink collectible brains that are scattered around the levels
