I wonder if Stubbs would have painted in that controlled fashion leaving so much of the canvas bright white as he worked? I suppose we will never know? Good effort, but somehow, even without a photo to copy, Stubbs' intimate knowledge of his model and of equine anatomy show through when comparing the original to your effort. He had such a way of having the light shine of the subtle curves of the muscles and planes of bones, tendons and ligaments in just the right way that gives a sense of 3 dimension to a 2 dimensional canvas. That is something I think very few people could ever achieve. I am grateful to you for reminding me to look up and drool over the original once again. Something I do not do often enough. Thanks for posting

Whistle jacket, the story goes that the chestnut stallion was purchased by the marquess or Rokingham , becoming his favorite race horse , winning 2000 guineas in a heat he won by a length. A grandson of the godolphin arabian he was said to be so vicious that after George stubbs finished the famous painting, the horse seeing his own image attacked the painting with bared teeth causing the groom to lead him away immediately. Whistle jacket was a very strikingly beautiful horse with an arabian physical appearance but a thourghbred at the same time. Thank you for your talent , you did a great job sir.
