Some relatives of mine had a small resort up the coast, and we saw MANY a vehicle beat the driver to the claim and slowly take it down. Once the water's high enough to sift the sand out from under your tires, might as well just say 'good bye'...

Just found this video. I live on the Outer Banks and drive on the beach all the time. Airing down is essential. You create a bigger footprint so you can ride on top of the sand. 4WD at least here on the barrier islands is also essential.
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
Yeah we aired down to like 15 lbs from 80 haha. The van weighs 9,000 lbs so that makes a difference haha
@RandomYTStuff6 жыл бұрын
What we may usually do to get a car's tires unstuck is to place a hard object, like an appropriately sized rock, up against the tires for them to grip onto and step over (rocks should be placed in the direction that the car needs to move, not behind because it might be useless or they could be shot back by the turning wheel and hit somebody/thing) works quite well
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
I've had success doing this in the past but this was a special situation where we needed to be towed out of the soft sand haha. Our van was just too heavy for the beach

@motor-head6 жыл бұрын
You did it right. Build up as much speed as you can before you hit the really soft spot and power your way through. You have enough room in the back (garage) area to mount a winch. Even a small 2500lb one intended for atv's can be really useful - a simple snatch block will double it's pulling capacity.
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
yeah i have a come along but there wasn't really anything to attach to!! Glad we had the guy with the 4runner to help us out haha. I've had a lot of experience with off roading so i had the right idea but it's hard with basically a motorhome haha
@dsgrayco6 жыл бұрын
I love your videos and am thinking of doing a promaster myself. Ido a lot of beach driving and beach camping. I think you need to air down a lot more. Into the single numbers is common to get your tires to bulge a little more. A little more bulge is all you need. We have huge class a s that air down to 10 psi and are able to do it. They are much heavier and less maneuverable. People think the tires will come off if you go down to far. Not the case. Just keep going down till you no longer get stuck. It's a learning experience. Once you see what pressure to run at them it is a lot easier. The van should continue to move forward when you take your foot off the pedal while driving on the sand. If it instantly gets stuck then you need to go lower psi in your tires. The beach I go to has a mandatory 18 psi maximum. You get a ticket if your above that. Most 2 wheel drive vehicles go less than that. I would love to know what the psi was in your tires when you got stuck. I hope you don't give up on beach driving. It is a lot of fun and gets you out to some great boondocking spots. Good luck
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
Yeah we learned out lesson my front tires were about 10 psi. But they're one ton tires that didn't want to bulge much. Oh well we got out anyway haha

Yeah, a front wheel drive vehicle with all the weight up front (ie the engine) is not exactly a dune buggy. 4x4 or at the very least a dually with a diff lock is wise in those situations. Plus, having some traction boards tossed in the back of the vehicle makes sense as well if you're going off terra ferma onto sand and stuff. Also, the tires really should be at least all terrain (ie "medium", not full off-road.)
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
yeah these tires are like semi tires! no grip haha. we wish it was a 4x4 thats for sure
@meagancherita93796 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t more weight in the front on a fwd be ideal?
@cr0ft-2k6 жыл бұрын
Depending on surface, perhaps, but on a very soft surface it means it's just more likely to dig down and get stuck, I'd say. Rear wheel drive with one wheel would not be great either, though. A diff lock, that drives both rear wheels, gets you 100% more traction and one of the wheels might grip when the other doesn't, and of course if all four wheels drive then you only need grip on one or two of them at a time. On snow and ice, more weight over the front drive wheels probably helps rather than hinders, though.

Fun video! I can tell you're not from Oregon because in Oregon if you let a little rain stop you then 1/2 the year you'd never do anything.😂 You've discovered perhaps the best section of the Oregon coast - from where you were at in Pacific City north to Cape Meares is wonderful and definitely the road less traveled. I hope you enjoy your time in my fair state!

Our can cannot be converted to 4x4 unfortunately!! we wish it could!! Thanks for watching Eric!!
@veganpotterthevegan6 жыл бұрын
That's why RWD is better in the long run. You can always convert them. These aren't small cars. They're heavy in the back too. And you can always throw chains on. I don't have a live in van but drive/own a Ford Transit. The traction is snow is great with passengers. It's only bad when empty..that's when the chains come out. With FWD, weight in the back (furniture, gear etc)is your enemy

Wow that's scary I just built out my ProMaster thinking here in New York front wheel drive goes through anything. Snow ice, muddy roads. but seeing your ProMaster getting stuck that easy in the sand makes me wonder. It's usually the sprinters and rear wheel drive that gets stuck very easy just KZbin it and you'll see. Did Eamon and bec even get stuck a little bit in their Sprinter. Anyways fun video guys thanks
@etiennebimier2736 жыл бұрын
I don't think Eamon & Bec get stuck with their Sprinter. And on the sand, rear wheel drive are better than front wheel drive, because of the weight repartition. With front whell drive, it's like digging a "hole" in front of you and driving into it. With rear wheel drive, you constantly "push" the sand and as all the weight is allready in the front of the rear wheel, you can drive more easily. On the other hand, on the icy roads, front wheel drive are better. But, in each case, you have to get your tire pressure really low like 10 to 14 Psi, and adopt a smooth driving at every start ;)
@micramvan67666 жыл бұрын
Etienne Bimier Yeah I'm used to snow and ice and slippery slopes. Which is where I'll be some of the time but yeah I better get some chains or definitely lower the air pressure if I want to play in the sand. Then again maybe four wheel drive van life not too expensive can't afford it.. Ha
@etiennebimier2736 жыл бұрын
Andys Van Adventure Yeah, sadly, here in France, we can't drive so much on the beach. I hope some day, when my conversion will be over, I can bring my Sprinter into USA/CANADA and have an awesome travel!
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
Yeah they got stuck too we had to dig them out but they don't weight 9,000 lbs like we do. it's not the vehicle that got us stuck it's the weight and length
@etiennebimier2736 жыл бұрын
Trent & Allie Wow, this is heavy ;) In France, we are only allowed to 7700 lbs... France vehicles laws are very strict, I have to pass homologation after having converting my sprinter van. Anyway, keep doing what you do, bye ✌️

@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
we used black auto carpet and spray adhesive. The cavity where you access the lights needs to be open in order to access the lights to change them in the future. Don't worry too much about insulating those cavities.

Sorry off topic, have you guys done or will you do a video on how you went about buying the van initially. What made you decide sprinter and pro master.... thanks
@cr0ft-2k6 жыл бұрын
I seem to recall that was covered in the early videos of the first van, which was also a Promaster. Just smaller and with fewer amenities, so they traded up in size but stayed with the Promaster. The Promaster does have some advantages, like a perfectly flat floor and front-wheel drive, so there is a lot less van hardware underneath it as well (no drive shaft). It's also the widest internally (just barely), and probably the msot square which makes building the internal easier. (Personally I'd still buy a Ford Transit - or maybe an Iveco Daily 6, in Europe at least.)

Saw a video of an Asian dude in a range rover attach a shovel to the hub of his back tire and get unstuck in deep sand dune and leave a rooster tail behind him has he unstuck himself. It was crazy to watch because it worked! 😵😲😯😱😂😂😂

Come on guys, a little rain? I thought brave frontiersfolk like yourselves just bit the bullet and launched into the day. I think you're lucky the quicksand didn't get you guys. Maybe time to get some on board air fitted? And don't let the small matter of incoming tide stress you out. Remember the two rules - 1. Don't sweat the small stuff. -2. It's all small stuff. Stay safe guys and keep up the good work.

Trent, your not a morning person, I can tell when you start your blog early in the morning, you breath heavily, deep voice, don't look to happy, etc.

You were dreaming that you woke up in a 4x4 Sprinter... and then you woke up and you were driving in the sand... and then you woke up and you were in a Pro Master??? Too funny!

That was fun to watch your beach adventure. I’d totally be the one for driving all the way onto the beach! I thought you guys weren’t vegan ( one of the reasons I first start my following you). Are you vegan or just cooking vegan so everyone could eat?
@TrentandAllie6 жыл бұрын
We are not vegan, just making vegan food so everyone can be included. it's not bad but we would be eating regularly if these guys weren't hangin out with us.
