This explains why I sometimes get stuck on red at a certain junction for ages thinking that the lights are broken, I'll look out for these 👍

Good subject, we have a few in mbro, actually passed the stop line (in middle of cross if you like), it's amazing how many cars roll past the sensor, or don't reach it. The arrow then dosnt cone on and they get stranded in the middle. In my experience many of my fellow driving instructors don't know about these sensors.

I have another one near me, controlling a one-lane tunnel, where the sensor is in the bike box!

Yeah I noticed ever since I started riding a moped around, I get stuck at traffic lights for a good 5 mins or longer and there's never any traffic behind me or on the other side to trigger the lights to change. We have a law down here in the manual for moped and motorcycle that if you sit at a light and there's no traffic for 2 straight minutes, you can just go if it's still red.

This is a pedestrian crossing close to a junction but not actually on a junction. Wouldn't it be simpler if the lights simply stayed green until a pedestrian pressed the button?

This video is discussing the traffic lights AFTER the pedestrian crossing.
