@ecointerpreter/ Finn Ross comes across a red stag stuck in a bush. This stag proceeds to break free and run away. However whilst running it trips over and ends it’s life. A very u fortunate yet incredible encounter.
All of the meat from this animal was harvested and taken home.
Finn Ross has also filmed another similar video whereby an elk falls of a water fall to her death. To have both these encounters is immeasurably lucky.
Finn says … Another crazy wilderness encounter. My girlfriend, dog and I had just broken the flats after being in the hills for 3 days when we saw a stag caught, of all places in the rainforest of Southwestland, in the middle of a flat! It was thrashing around for the 5 minutes it took for us to get up to it. Who knows how long it had been caught, but it was mid afternoon so we think it would have got caught early morning. Once it broke free it took a few stumbles but we thought it was away. When it fell I went and tried to free it thinking it had exhaustion. However it must have broken its neck on the fall and we were unable to save him. Luckily we were able to utilise the meat and pack him out. What are the chances this is the second deer I have seen die in front of me of natural causes in the NZ backcountry!

Don’t think it broke its neck or anything from flipping over. A lesser known condition that is very common with deer species specifically is Capture Myopathy. Extreme levels of fear, stress and struggle (such as, but not limited to, capture) essentially cause quick onset physiological imbalances that severely damage the muscles and changes the PH of the bloodstream and therefore the functionality of the heart itself. His muscles started seizing as his body began to fail and thats why he couldn’t get up after that last fall but was still alive for a bit after. The level of stress and struggle from get tangled in the bushes for an extended time could have been enough, but unfortunately then being approached and followed by a dog and two humans would pretty much seal the fate of this poor guy. Within his muscles and bloodstream, he was a goner before he even flipped and fell to the ground. Glad you utilized all that you could out of him, though. No use letting all that meat go to spoil. Its all just the way of life.

@@Mr.Potato420 There was a case many years ago in which a bank robber did his thing. The teller was healthy before the stickup, and too young to be terribly heart-attack-prone. One hour later, she was dead. The doctor who performed the autopsy said he'd never seen such intense effects of sheer stress and terror on so many organs. Not just the heart, but a lot of organs. It broke its neck. I've heard of a lot of deer breaking their necks by running into fences when they think they can just run through a fence. I have a friend that hired me to install a fence around his property and afterward, a doe and her fawn got inside of his property one evening and my friend told me that they tried to run through his new fence one evening and ran head first into it. They both broke their necks and died afterward. I was called back by him to repair the damages to the fencing. Deer are pretty stupid. That's why they get hit by cars, trucks and trains also. They'll stand in the way staring at the headlights, then, 'BAMMM!' Get splattered.

Don't exactly havee a soft spot for deer bc they taste delicious buuuuuuuuuuut having a dog that doesn't listen and continues to chase an active animal like that is super dangrous. Dog could easily get trampled even if you don't care about the deer. Dog definitely didn't help the fact that the deer was freaking the fuck out and at least before the dogs introduced the deer is just stressed about being stuck not an active potential predator. If you're gonna kill a deer shoot it and put it out of it's misery like a man. Don't scare them to death and let um suffer

Well, if it had passed out where it was originally standing, it would’ve drowned. The dog played no part in that deer’s death deer are stupid and don’t know when to stop fighting, which is why when two bucks go at it one of them usually ends up dying and hanging from the other ones antlers. Me and my parents raise deer and with this we have to put up “shade cloth” which is cloth we put up along the 6 to 8ft tall fences to keep deer from 1. Getting spooked easily and running into the fence 2. Letting deer know there’s an object there so they don’t break their necks running into the fence 3. To well shade them when it’s sunny out Anyway now that I’ve explained what shade cloth is and does I’m gonna explain a VERY similar situation now of course it’s a deer farm whitetail deer not elk but their all just super goats but moving on so one of our big bucks (horns male deer) got tangled up in the cloth after trying to shed his horns of velvet like this he was all tangled up now of course we used tranquilizers and medicine and all this other stuff to calm him and it’s not far away from our home so it’s not like he was tangled up long but in this case I do believe he could’ve been there for a while tangled all up and so from the looks of it he was not only panicked by having this stuff over his eyes and on his head but was exhausted deathly exhausted I’ve seen some of our does get ran by bucks in heat and end up looking like this some even die because of it

@jamesratliff1803 Takes a certain type of appetite to eat deer meat. It is so gamey, revolting smelling when cooked that we couldn't get any of our children to choke down the stuff - not even a bite to try it. We had a equestrian farm in a rural area in PA and were/are plagued with deer. Wasn't unusual we'd have a herd of 35 or more sheltering in our upper fields and meadows. Extremely destructive voracious eating machines. We'd allow hunters on our property to hunt the vermin. They (the hunters) would inevitably bring deer meat venison, "steaks" or whatever that horrid meat is called after they "harvested" one. I politely requested that they not bring us any meet from the kill as a thank you. There was a controlled hunt on the adjacent farm one year from Christmas until after New Year - 75 culled 1 week. They are an extreme nuisance in this state

@@chir0pter why am I a clown for knowing my state law? Just because things are different where I live doesn't make me the clown. Your comment makes you the real clown. 💯

You had a elk jump to it's death over a waterfall and now a deer follows with the forward flip of death and you only have 7 thousand sub's which means what is this your 3ed video and 2 of them are wildlife taking their own life's. The question is are you the dark angel of death or Satan himself there is no other options.

He killed himself for struggling for what was probably six or eight hours. Deer are stupid. They don’t know when to stop struggling and they give themselves heart attacks. It’s the same thing when two bucks fight one of them usually dies and ends of tangled in the other ones antlers which ends up killing him too because he can’t drag 130 pounds around by his neck.

His dog, another animal walking next to it, “spooking it” to death, is totally finable, grow up. You rather he let it go to waste like you would.

Either that, or just gave himself a heart attack it happens all the time because deer don’t know when to stop struggling take a fight for instance, two bucks, go at it. One of them usually ends up dying and tangled up in the other ones antlers, which makes him die as well because you can’t carry 130 pounds around by your neck. Sometimes you stumble across it and have to cut some antlers and hopefully they will have enough energy to go off and rest and not die. I’ve also seen it happen when a deer got stuck in a fence.
