I would also like to add that temporary fix light turning the key right before the lights still works.... I did however replace the brake light switch thinking that this was the fix to the whole thing it was not!!!! So now I'm going with the lighting control module going to replace that this weekend I will comment and let everybody know if this is the fix or not thanks again PS working on a 1999 Ford crown Victoria LX with no trailer lights connection

Hey, was it stuck in park because of the rear break light being burnt out? Silly design, but I have heard of that.

Like the shift interlock is connected with the same wire as the break light. I believe it is a series circuit. So if the break light is out, the car won't know you pressed the break and the break shift interlock wont release leaving it stuck in park.

If this does not work there is a small rubber plug at the very bottom of your steering column pull it open use a pencil or some other round object and pushed that little metal ring up and as you're pushing the ring shifted into drive it's your interlock solenoid it is bad quick way to get home it'll work for a while

My 04 was doing that because my tail light fuse had blown and believe it or not Ford designed the system to do that to alert you to the problem. new fuse fixed the problem. Make sure you have stop/tail lights, the life you save may be your own

That MAY have been what happened here, can't fully remember. The trailer wiring did blow a fuse, can't remember which one it was.

Mine was a short in trailer wiring. It blew the fuse. You might want to check your fusebox and go from there.

Correct! You need to figure out what caused the fuse to blow. In my case it was faulty trailer wiring which short circuited, killing the brake lights.

@@busaboi4669 It depends on what is causing it. For me it was trailer wiring that was faulty and which blew a fuse. You can use a multimeter or fuse checker to check the fuses in the box under the steering wheel. If there is a blown fuse you will have to find the cause of the short (there's an electronically controlled shift-interlock solenoid which prevents the car from being shifted into gear with out the brake being depressed.)

Sometimes not having brake lights is what causes that issue for an issue with the brake There's also a manual button to push underneath the steering wheel to shift into drive

Mine was a blown fuse from faulty trailer wiring. Check all of the fuses in the fuse box under the dash! If one keeps blowing, then there is a short/issue somewhere.

Hey I did this on my car now it won’t lock. Wheel was locked from low abs fluid. Had to do this so I could disconnect my drive shaft I took off the rear brakes than the abs locked me out. Any chance you can make a video?

I just tried this and it didn't work.. Mine has been sitting awhile and is stuck in park. The battery is dead and it's probably low on trans fluid. I don't know if these things would keep it from shifting from park. I just want to push it like a foot 😒

I believe there is an electronic shift-lock solenoid on these cars so I'm guessing the battery may need to be charged.

replace the Shift Interlock Solenoid. Where is it located? halfway down in the steering column. You need to lower the steering column.
