Stuck, Loose or Broken Shifter: 2007 Volvo XC90 3.2 Shifter Claw Replacement Repair Fix

If your Volvo shifter is stuck in gear, won’t go into park, feels floppy and goes into manual shifting on its own- you likely need to replace your broken shifter claw.

My shifter got sloppy & kept falling toward the manual position and felt like some sort of retaining spring broke.So I searched the net and found its a common problem with plastic parts breaking in these manual/auto trannys.The repair kit for the shift claw was only 23 bucks +shipping.It contains 2 plastic levers,2springs and a new lock pin.Now I was real careful about the orientation of the springs and all but there is no way I could make 2 springs fit back in! I fiddled and fussed and got really mad and felt pretty stupid and couldn't find any good pics on the net how this went together.Ihad read it was real simple!OK???I slept on the problem and it all looked like the same PITA that it was.Somehow my brain said maybe only 1spring is needed so I layed the smaller spring in the yellow claw & layed the black claw on top with the spring legs nestled in the grooves stretched the claw open,had my wife pull the shift stick into the open claw as I pushed it over the shaft and pushed the retainer pin in and WA LA!! 1 spring!? Works perfect.I wish I would have read that somewhere!! So there it is.I hope it helps. Frombach

The odd ball spring is for a 2005 v70

The spring is for the posterior to the shift.

Hi I had the same problem with a broken claw. After I installed the new claw successfully the problem came, I couldn't move the shifter to P and I also could not get the key out the of ignition unless problem it is in P right. Any advice I would be appreciated. Thanks
