Stuck Middle Console Latch Repair 99-06 Silverado Sierra (How To)

This video shows you how to fix a stuck middle flip up console on a 1999 through 2006 and 2007 Classic Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra. Really easy job that takes 5 minutes and a squirt of WD-40.

This is my problem! Thought it was rivited and didnt know how to get at internal to clean and wd40. I ordered a replacement middle section and lid in much better shape than mine set me back $190. This gets me going and a lil smarter on my new to me 2002 Silverado 1500. I'll check harder for videos like this in the future before buying replacements. All good! Thanks!

Thank you for posting this. Our's got stuck and I had absolutely no idea of how the lock mechanism work and had tried almost every trick in the book to get it opened. Banging on the lock never came to mind. It is plastic and that's the last thing I would have tried until your video. The problem with the lock was a small salt package from McD's got stick in the lock. It works perfectly now after removing the pack and WD-40.

I didn’t have WD-40 on me when I fix this. I just cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol and then put a little extra virgin olive oil on it for that low fat fix. LOL. Thanks for posting this it helped a lot!

I appreciate your video man!! I thought mine was broken because the latch wouldn't pop back out to press it I took it apart and turns out there was a penny wedge with the button that's why it wouldn't pop back out thanks a lot good as a new again!

What worked for me was just using spray grease to lubricate the contact points and pivot points and the latch works fantastic now! I didn't modify anything and I didn't repair anything.

At 2:23 that is a piece of the clip. When prying make sure to be careful because the plastic clips break very easily. Of the 4 I had 1 break. Once you get it all cleaned out hit clean all the metal contact surfaces of the latch, then clean out all that you can. Once you clean the roller and latch my latch started working perfectly, thank you for the video it was very helpful👍

Thank you for the video. My 1997 was gummed up w a soft drink someone spilled long ago. FYI you might consider updating your title to include 1995 to 1999. It is the exact same design.

I have a 1998 OBS - same mechanism I just opened it (did need a screwdriver to help though) there was a pack of gum "best before" ..... 12/31-2005 😅 in there, been a while since it was open last I guess

How about lithium spray instead of WD-40? I find it usually works better and is more slippery . Thanks for the vid! We could have done without the commentary on why you couldn't find your tools and kept to the point of showing us how to crack open the console.

You left out the most important part! When you put it back together it is very difficult to get the latch actuator under the latch! That needs to be shown!
