What's the gearbox of that bus? It doesn't looks like a traditional manual transmission.

It's called "finger shift" system. Very Japanese original system. It mimics clicking feeling when gear is changed, but actually it is just a electrical switch. Recently, AMT is used, but more than 30 years ago, when the ECU is not so common, the system is equipped to reduce driver's fatigue.

Additionally, almost all Japanese bus has rear engine, so shift lever is much longer than front engine ones. So shifting mechanically is very heavy.

waka waka I think I saw that kind of gearbox from an old driver training video of UK. Is Japanese buses have that as standard or traditional Manual is standard

waka waka I heard that the law requires every bus should be a non step car or one step car, is that a real thing?
