Side notes regarding the Studebaker trucks! As far as I know they built they only pickups that had the gas tank under the body instead of the idiotic behind the seat! Something that was common with other makes until the early '70s! Additionally, the '49 through '59 pickups had the running boards inside the doors which prevented mud and snow from accumulating on them. Also, my first car in High School was a '53 Commander Starlight Coupe, just to be different. My first new car was a '63 Gran Turismo Hawk that I had for 30 years and put over 240,000 miles on. A tremendous road car. How I regret selling it.

I was just at a Studebaker meet last week at the opposite end of the country. It was held in Huntington NY ( Long Island ) My favorite is the Express Coupe

No mention of the Studebaker assembly plant in Vernon. It was there from the 30’s until 1956, on District Blvd. I believe it was where the Tapitio plant is now. Kind of like Nash out in El Segundo, Chrysler in Commerce, Ford in Pico Rivera and GM in South Gate. That whole area in SE Los Angeles was the “Detroit West”.

Great show. Thanx. My faves were the Bulletnose of the '50s, especially the 4 window type. There were 2 Avantis in our neighborhood. As youg punks, my friends and I would drive by periodically, in appreciation. As I remember, they were both parked in the driveway...I had a '59 Lark VI, 3 on the tree, that I bought at an estate sale in '74 or 5 in central Pennsylvania for, I think, $275. Baby blue, named her after the late owner, Molly. My girlfriend drove it, following me in my '56 Chevy 3100 pickup, on our move to Independence, WV. That was a sweet ride, the envy of at least a few. Shortly after purchase, I joined the Studebaker Drivers Club (SDC), which was accompanied by the bi-monthly (?) newsletter, Turning Wheels, which became a great resource for parts.

Just another note about his intro comments the Avanti was in fact a Studebaker . It was first brought to market in 1962 , so it is indeed a bonafied studebaker.

I said that about the Avanti II, which were built after Studebaker was out of the car business.

I started to watch this until they showed the second 1953 model stated as 1952. I figured that if he couldn’t tell the difference, he was just blowing smoke.

Thanks a lot Mike for your videos. Please slow down your planning and zooming, you are creating motion sickness, haha. Also you zoom in to engines and dashes, but you are not showing much - not centered on any relevant details.
