This episode brought back a long forgotten memory of a Matchbox I had of this car! Thanks as always.

Interesting video on the Wagonaire. Before we were married my wife owned one; she didn't have particularly fond memories of it, but that's a long story for another time. Seatbelt use wasn't common in the '60s and '70s; my mother refused to use them because "if you're wearing a seatbelt you'll drive too fast because it keeps you from sliding out from under the wheel when going around a sharp corner". I did anyway, and I'm glad I did; I'm alive today because I was wearing mine when I was hit head on by a drunk driver in November of 1979 and I was able to walk away from the accident.

I've wanted a Wagonaire for many years now, but it really is hard to find a decent one for a decent price. My love for Corvairs won out, because I bought a 65 Monza last year instead. That yellow Stude is a beautiful car!

Yeah I'm first! Do a story of the Grand Prix in the background. Not enough love for those cars of that era!!!

Seatbelts? I can remember 5 year old me riding in the front seat of our 1959 Ford Ranch Wagon when dad hit the brakes and my head went flying into the windshield, cracking it. Went to emergency room, took X-rays and I was fine. The doctor said I had a hard head.

Matchbox also made a three inch model of the wagon.

Would guess they sold more two tone blue Matchbox Wagonaires diecast models than actual cars.

May not have been a great sales success for Studebaker, but, a few years later, a similar concept, was a winner for Jeep. The Wagoneer. This Studebaker, like so many other of their models was too far ahead of its time. Funny, when one considers that, as a company, they really did not have a lot of capital to put into development, they always found a way to innovate.
