As a jazz guitarist and clinician, I'm often asked "what guitarist inspired you to play guitar?"....They always expect me to say Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass...much to their surprise, since I didn't get into jazz until much later... I tell them Randy Rhoads and his solo on Mr Crowley from the Ozzy/Randy tribute "live" album!

Thanks, man!! Yeah, that tribute album is freaking magic! His sound and everyone improvises away from the studio version, it’s even better than what I thought couldn’t be more perfect:) Can you imagine what he would of accomplished if his life wasn’t cut so short!

@philsargent1 I can't begin to imagine the levels Randy would have taken the instrument to! He was inspiration in starting to play at 14, I'm now 45...and that solo is still my favorite to this day!

Sorry, but other guitarists outshined Randy but pretty good lengths... I'm very much a fan of his, but I'm an honest one... and you do great work there.... That's too cool.

Maybe he feels stronger doing trills like that? Or he might be a jazz player and is more used to using pinkie in complex situations.

Ha, I had to rewatch to see. If you’re referring to the minor 3rds like between the D and F natural in the 10th position..It depends on the situation but if there isn’t a reach involved beyond a minor or major 3rd I’m definitely more comfortable using position based fingerings. Probably because of my classical and Jazz studies. Although, studying Allan Holdsworth certainly broke me out of that habit thanks to his insane 4 note per string moments😂
