I have NEVER been to a graduation where everyone’s name is read like a speeding bullet. Not have I EVER been to a graduation that didn’t let the kids celebrate on stage. UF is wacky and it’s the last time I’m ever going to one of their graduations again. There was no need for that marshal, there was no need for such a fast pace, and there was no need for them to just give the students 2 seconds to celebrate.
@seanna38636 жыл бұрын
Sasha Harney That’s why I’m glad they changed the format. People should be allowed to do a little dance or celebration as they cross the stage (not longer than 2-3 seconds of course), just for all the hard work they put in to make it to graduation. The new format should allow for this since their won’t be so many students at one graduation anymore.

This was my graduation and I was very displeased with the way the staff (the one usher particularily) was handling the situation. Many of my fellow classmates (of ALL ethnicities) felt that they had been rushed and pushed unto the stage by the older man (not seen here) as well as this usher pacing us to walk across. This was not a race issue. It was felt by everyone. It just so happens that the students who were taking the longest to celebrate while walking across (which I think they should be able to in a polite manner for all the work we've accomplished) were African American. White and Asian students who stopped to take 2 second selfies were getting manhandled as much. I understand you've got to keep the line going or we would have been there all day, but this was not the way to conduct this event.
@jaclynperez595 жыл бұрын
Wtf do you mean it’s about safety?! I agree this wasn’t about skin color but with him manhandling some of these students, someone could have gotten hurt if they tripped. Anything could have happened

I understand wanting to keep things smooth and synced up, so when the student's name is called that same student is on stage. So say the names slower. Take a breath in between names. It's not an unreasonable request for the students to get a few seconds. Especially considering they'll allow some of these speakers to drone on forever but when they finally get to the part that everyone is there to see, they're suddenly in a rush. Makes no sense.
