Why not just knock out mortgage loans for everyone then? And auto loans. Hell why should anyone have to pay back any loan?? Screw the responsible taxpayers to buy democrat votes.

Vote. And communicate to your politicians -- especially demand that interest rates be capped in the single digits. That's what inflates your bill like crazy. Politicians count on 50-70% of Americans to NOT vote to keep in office. So go vote and shock then -- let's get a better government it is possible.

Do you vote? You should demand Congress restore the law that required government/military contractors to be registered IN the US before they can administer government grants. Why this matters? Not registered in the US means these multibillion dollar corporations do NOT pay taxes to the USG. Meanwhile, a student loan borrower like me has already repaid my original loan. It's the interest rate that is the real problem not discussed in the media. Most of us will have repaid the equivalent of 3 student loans by the time we are done paying because of the interest rates. Meanwhile, large corporations do not pay on the profits they make.

Prior to the mid 1960s college was tuition free and tax payer funded until they changed it. There's no reason it can't be don't now. I'd much rather be funding education then war and half the other garbage they waste their money on. It's all totally doable. They just don't want too. They already recieve enough tax money now to take care of it without raising anyone's taxes if they knew how to budget.

How is it fair that I have to pay taxes on my house forever even after it's paid off and those taxes fund local k-12 schools and multiple other community services that I don't use? Taxes are never really fair. It's not about benefiting you, when you pay it's about funding things that benifit everyone or the community around you, state programs, and federal. Thats how it's always worked. Taxes have never been fair.

Student Loan borrowers are actually subsidizing you. Because the funds subsidizes the healthcare system as dysfunctional as it is. And students routinely don’t have health insurance themselves. That’s not fair either. The current system is very dysfunctional, but the student loan borrowers are in fact being used to subsidize You and not the other way around.

@@matthewkopp2391 Our government subsidizes us -- the lenders pocket most of the money though. The Department of Health might help with some student health insurance. It's NOT coming from the Department of Ed ie our loans. States also aid student health insurance -- DC sure does via expanded Obamacare.

Whats crazy is that this ever happened. Education used to be taxpayer funded and free until they changed it a few decades ago so ppl could make profits of every facet of it. - there is no reason at all education shouldn't be free especially in a country like America. It's sad it isn't. And if it was being done right their wouldn't be a student debt problem. - also investing in the education of your citizens is an investment in your nation as a whole. Having an educated work force/population is important.

Really? The interests rates are astronomical. I technically repaid more than I borrowed but the interest rates result in my repaying the near-equivalency of 3 student loans. No one talks about the interest rates. Kill interest rates on student loans, then it would be easy to repay the actual loan and no issue.

Your child's federal student loans are not loans a parent is responsible for. Those are loans that are the responsibility of the person who got the loans.
