Student wins grant to bring BIPOC books to school library

Sofia Rathjen of Sherwood Park, Alta., won a $2,000 grant to handpick a collection of books by writers who are Black, Indigenous or persons of colour for her junior high school library. The Grade 8 student said she and other students have experienced racism and microaggressions, and she hopes the collection can help make an impact.
