There is a reason why voting rights were reserved for people who met certain criteria, and it wasn't to oppress groups, though i admit that in theory it could be used that way if a large enough population truly wanted to amd agreed with it. They wanted people who had a stake in the game and something here to protect, and who were competent enough to build something up, or at least maintain it in good order and not fall into financial ruin, to be the ones making responsible and informed decisions about our country's policy and direction. Now days you don't even have to know how to read to have the right to vote! It's not about surpressing minorities, it's about making sure only competent people with America's interests at heart are making decisions about and for us. I would gladly give up my right to vote, if that ment everyone on all sides who was incompetent, uninformed, irresponsible, and immature was no longer allowed to vote.

In fairness, the vast majority of media outlests are liberal democrat biased. You have to make an effort to find a conservative outlet, but all they have time for is diffusing the liberal propaganda. There really isn't a reliable source to just get current events without a slant. For me, I try and tune most of it out. Its my own personal day to day experiences that tell me how the country is doing. And it really isn't that hard to read. A manufactured war in Ukraine doesn't concern or interest me, but $3/gallon gas concerns me on a very up close level. Slanting abortion as women's rights is of no consequence to my day to day life, but spending $300 a week at the grocery store for basics affects me very closely. Defunding police or not prosecuting charged criminals isn't a problem that is right on my doorstep, but it is close enough that I have to at least keep a watchful eye. Policies with healthcare don't particularly concern me as we have a respectable insurance plan through my wife's workplace, not to mention healthcare isn't a promised right in the first place. However, as a new gun owner, I am very concerned about our government making strides in unarming the citizens. You see, following twitter or FOX or CNN or whatever news source will only ever give you half the story, if they aren't outright lying to you. Its the personal experience in the world that we should be weighing all of this with.

I think it shows that when given a statement attributed to one person rather than another, we fill in the context and connotations implied. When someone has a history of racism it's fair to assume a racist connotation rather than a statement of truth. When one brother always lies and one always tells the truth, they sometimes say the same thing. 'What would your brother say to this?' will result in the same answer, but one would be telling the truth, the other would be telling a lie.

@@jessicataylor7174 except that it is often that our bias is incorrect. This is why both sides claim to stand for innocents who have been wronged. The United States was built on the idea that "we are all innocent until proven guilty", which directly challenges the idea that we should allow our unfounded biases to inform our justice system. There are many "good" people who lie and many "liars" who tell the truth. The only way to objectively judge on any particular situation is to observe the facts and ignore our prejudice. The current political battle is not one of ideas or words, but of identity and bias.

@@jessicataylor7174 @Jessica Taylor well historically speaking, why do you think Hitler won? He was running against a very powerful and violent communist party in Weimar Germany. Considering that the Communists have always been more damaging than anyone else, the German voters did end up picking the lesser of two evils. Now here's the thing, many would disagree with that statement and claim that Hitler's ideals were evil a d that he was "the only bad guy" in WWII. Regardless of which side is actually true, this is a perfect example of how bias has crept into even what seemed to be an easy judgement. Ultimately, I would argue that context does matter, but if you always assume the worst about your opposition and always give the benefit of the doubt to your own, then you nothing more than a pawn.
