I will say this, we had a kid to bring a gun on campus my junior year of high school. When I tell you that they fear in my body made me physically sick. If you study statistics, laws actually indeed change statistical deaths. If that was the case and laws had no effect, why would we have any laws regarding ANYTHING? Read up on Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc all the other countries that have passed laws regarding weapons of war and what the outcome has been: virtually NO mass shootings. I hate guns. Other than target shooting they have one intended use- to accelerate a piece of metal to a velocity so that when it comes into contact with living flesh it will tear through it, incapacitating or killing the recipient. None of us should ever want to use such a tool against another human. I wish they didn't exist That being said there are people who if given access to a firearm will intend to use it in any number of unwarranted and malicious ways. They'll use it to take the property of another, they'll use it to control an individual or a group, and they'll use it in the manner we just recently saw. As long as firearms and the abilty to create them exists (and a decent chunk of humanity keeps acting the way they do) the best solution an innocent has against someone else wielding a firearm with ill intent is to also have a firearm. I'd love to see guns totally dissapear, just like I'd love to see borders totally dissapear and just like I'd love to see a lot of things disappear. I'm an idealist, but one who tempers idealism with realism. You don't just set out a pile of cash with a note that says "Only take some if you absolutely have to and only take the amount you need" because someone will just scoop up all the money and leave none for anyone else regardless if they need it or not. You can't have open borders because there are too many people who will not respect those who already live in the area they're moving to. You can't take away the rights of someone to defend themselves while leaving the power for them to be attacked in place. If anything we should be removing barriers to owning and carrying a firearm. Three weeks ago I saw someone get shot multiple times as they ran from their attacker. This was around noon on a weekend in a Wal-Mart parking lot, not three miles away from my house, and that wasn't even the only person to be shot in a Wal-Mart parking lot on the exact same day (different Wal-Mart). There have been a staggering number of murders within a five mile radius of where I live, most seem to be road rage incidents like the father who was killed on I-24 this past Christmas. I don't know how many people will actually read this entire thing and how many of them were born and raised in Nashville like me, but I'm utterly disgusted at what this city has turned into. As a child I could walk to my elemtary school without having to worry about some idiot in an Infiniti G37 doing 70 in a 30. As a teenager in high school I didn't have to wonder if I was going to be shot by the guy who is following me because I gave him a dirty look for blowing through a red light, which if I wasn't paying attention would have resulted in him plowing into the side of my car. I wouldn't pull in a McDonald's parking lot and see piles of trash everywhere because when people get done eating they just throw their trash right beside their cars instead of walking a few feet to a trashcan. I wasn't seeing someone standing on the side of every single interstate off ramp and Wal-Mart parking lot holding a piece of cardboard begging for money (no pity here, unless they're missing a limb my life's story is ten times as rough as any homeless person in this city). People used to be polite and smile at you here, now everyone looks angry and hateful all the time. I was in the Army and I've spent seven years as a ward of TDOC (I myself was very stupid at one time, but being kept in the penitentiary for that long cured me of that). I've seen some terrible things and lived with the worst Tennessee has to offer, so all of this aggressive behavior that's seriously ramped up over the last decade doesn't phase me much (I'm not proud of that at all) but I've seen it affect plenty of others that aren't used to it and just want to live a decent, peaceful life. Those types won't stick around forever, and many left years ago, but if they keep leaving all you'll have remaining are those causing all the problems. The factors influencing the downhill slide of Nashville are numerous and varied. Many of them are beyond our control. The way we react to all of these events isn't. It's difficult to fight against the type of people who showed up to harass our lawmakers. They're aggressive, generally stupid and often violent. We don't have much of a choice though. At the very least we have to confront them and stand our ground. I'm not sure if this city can be saved from turning into Memphis, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago or any number of cities that have become terrible places to live, but we've got do whatever we can to keep that from happening.

Absolutely enough is enough, protect our children, the key point being swept under the rug is that the coward shooter had two locations targeted but did not go to one of the locations because she deemed the security at that location as too formidable so therefore picked the location where the kids were left vulnerable and unprotected. 14 minutes from the time she shot out the school doors until police neutralized the shooter. Pinellas County Sheriff who commenced a study of the February 2018 school shooting in Florida recommended not only locking the doors which failed in this Tennessee school shooting when the shooter shot out the doors, but he also recommended having 3-4 teachers at every school armed and trained. Every school has several teachers, gym coaches, Administrators etc. that are fit, willing and capable of taking on this responsibility. If there were 3 or 4 teachers, gym coaches or administrators armed at this school then when the shooter shot out the school doors they would have heard the gun shots and sound of broken glass and they would have rushed to the front doors. The shooter would have been neutralized at the front door 30 seconds to a minute later rather than 14 long minutes later by the cops 👮‍♀️.
