im a furry myself, but honestly, do not wear a fursuit to school. its just going to be embarrassing for both you and others, and stuff like this is going to happen. its usually ok to wear stuff like cat ears (i see some girls at my school do it daily), but dont bring paw-pads or anything like that. save your fursuits for when you can go to conventions, or just at home/at a friend or supportive relative’s house.

As a random furry myself (which I'm not afraid to admit it), I would like to give two cents on this manner. Based on some videos covering this issue, I believe in what the kids were describing are actually therians. I wish most people would do their research before casting their judgement on the furry fandom, since they always been the butt of a joke since forever. The therians are basically individuals who believed that they're spirit animals trapped in human bodies (Believe me, I actually researched this stuff), hence they would often walk on four and tends to behave like wild animals. A furry on the other hand, is a fan of anthropomorphic animals, which are animal characters with human qualities. Unlike the therians, some furries uses an entire costume to represent themselves as their own OCs they've created and that's simply called fur suiting. I have nothing against with therians, but hearing what the kids are dealing with such as therians intimidating or straight up bully them like biting and spraying chemicals. And the school administrations refused to intervene, then yes, there should be accountability, because their behavior is unacceptable.

Average school kids and their parents (and news media, apparently) don't know what a therian/otherkin is. They see someone wearing a tail and call them a furry, usually with a lot of hate. It's pretty lame, actually. My wife cosplays Raftalia from Rising of the Shield Hero, and we went to a Halloween activity with our church, and the kids there started calling her a furry just for being in that outfit. While styles and builds vary, they're inherently hot, heavy, bulky, restrict your senses and movement, and require ample break times to avoid heat exhaustion/stroke. Allowing emotionally distressed children to hide from the world via polyester fur is not a good, healthy option. The level of acceptance being coerced here is incredible; or rather, it’s incredible that school authorities have succumbed to such unhealthy indulgences which do not at all aid a child’s wellbeing, and it’s incredible that culturally, this type of treatment is somehow become normalized.
