Some secular "intellectuals" misinterpret the 3 प्रकृति पाठ-s and the 8 विकृति पाठ-s of the Veda variously as "useless memorizing acrobatics, "attempts by Vedic reciters to monopolize the Veda", etc. The truth of the matter is this: At the level of the MantRa, here, the Veda, the Sound is as important as the Sense. The two cannot be separated. However, sense is liable to change through time for various reasons, but the Sound can be preserved if we try. And the learning of the 11 forms of the same mantra has made sure forever that there will NEVER be an error at least in the SONIC form of the mantra. And, needless to say, memorizing is the best way to preserve Wisdom in our world with fanatic library arsonists.
