My workaround has always been to mix the track at a larger block size, as you've said, bounce that down to one track, export it into a new file on SO4, record vocals clean with my lowest block size, minimum dropout, bounce that one out, and import into the original track. So much easier that way. Or at least it is for. I'm sure I don't need to go that far, but I'd rather not risk having the latency when I record my vocals. But just as others have said, excellent video. Very informative and straight to the point. Thank you for this.

Thank you sir, your video helped me get rid of the annoying cracks and pops (Studio One 4, i3, 8GB, Windows 10). I had tried out several things to no avail but finally, as you suggested, I was going to try to increase the block size but then figured that my driver selected was windows audio instead of my audio interface. Selecting the right one fixed the issue. That's silly but couldn't have figured that out myself. Love from Bengaluru.

I've went for external DSP and feel happy to not care about buffer anymore. Can record/monitor real time with any buffer I like without any crackling :) UAD does good job for me with this one.

I would have to agree, I have the new Presonus Studio Live 24 Series III console coming and will monitor thru that, but for the people who can't afford that, this will solve most people's problems.

Keith, your videos have been helping me out tremendously. I'm still new to this all have a quick question . Should I turn down my block size when producing/recording with MIDI?( For instance, If I'm using a synthesizer vst instrument with a midi keyboard controller). In my head, im separating producing/recording when it comes to the block size and not positive If I should raise or reduce when using MIDI. I'm pretty sure you should lower since you are still recording in general but I just wanted to clarify with you. Thank you for all you do and look forward to your future videos!
@DustyAtticStudio
@DustyAtticStudio 5 жыл бұрын
Yes raise and lower midi tracking as you would with tracking analog, you may have to play with the block size to find a setting that works best for your computer as instrument VSTIs do use more resources so keep an eye on your CPU usage and find a happy medium. You also might want to check out my video on Optimizing your system to free up some resources if you haven't already done so. I am glad you find my vids useful, welcome to the world of audio engineering and producing!

Im having pops and cracks even printed to my recording. I've tested 3 different interfaces and 2 different laptops..... ALL THE SAME!!! Even with a new session without any plugins at all and 1 track only when i turn on monitoring i start hearing Pops and cracks and they appear on the recording not just playback
@DustyAtticStudio
@DustyAtticStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Anything that prints will be related to mics, cables (XLR or USB), interfaces or any other outside interferences but not Studio One or any other DAW that I know of. On my system I always have some intermittent pops here and there but thats due to my c-states which doesn't print, its just annoying at times so not sure whats going on there. When you zoom in on the printed wav can you actually see the pop that printed to make sure it is in fact printing?

@@DustyAtticStudio yes, if i zoom in close enough i can actually see the pop
@DustyAtticStudio
@DustyAtticStudio Жыл бұрын
@@mixeandoconcarls5445 Then it has to be a bad cable, mic, interface or some other interference, drop-out pops and clicks due to block size or a slow computer will not print.

I test all your suggestion here, but in Windows 10 even have spikes and cracks with virtual instruments on i7 and 32Mb ram. None issues on iMac late 2013 with the same vst all runs flawlessly and soft. Thanks.

Lately I’ve run into a problem where I’m getting latency even when I have the block size really low like I normally do. I can’t figure out what’s happened. Even happens when I only have one or two tracks open on a new song so my resources are completely free. Does anyone know what that might be?
@DustyAtticStudio
@DustyAtticStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph, well it could be a few things, make sure you have the drop-out protection set to max and that you turn on the little "Z" (Green when on), also something funny about Studio One, if you have lets say a reverb on the send of the track you are recording it will also cause latency. Give all that a try and let me know

@@rkid727 By the way the little green Z is found on the main fader, drop-out protection is found under processing in options, let me know if this helps, if not maybe we can skype or zoom and I can walk you thru it.

@@DustyAtticStudio really appreciate that. I’ll definitely let you know if we still have an issue. It’s so weird because we’ve had studio one for about 4 years we’ve always gone back and forth with the block rates depending on if we’re tracking or mixing, but haven’t seen any latency when just opening a couple of tracks and while setting the block rate at 64-128. Maybe we touched another setting my mistake.

I'm still getting popping no matter what. My laptop is a god damn beast. It's literally the software itself. I'm not even joking. I've done all possible configs. It's the software. Somebody prove me wrong. I find this ridiculous even in this video there is constant popping on the audio. I've been on the forums and there is alot of complaints unfixed.
