What a fantastic video on a thoroughly confusing topic. Studio One has a lot going for it but they so often choose terrible terminology, inconsistent terminology (clip / event anyone?), different terminology to every other daw, different (and utterly random) short cuts to every other daw, terrible defaults... I don't get it. How is any of that "intuitive" or "user friendly"? It makes a really good daw much harder to learn and use properly. You came to the rescue here though. Thanks.

Thanks Glenn. When Cakewalk went under, Studio One was the second DAW I tried and immediately found editing, especially comping, to be so much easier that I was hooked. I agree about the terminology though... possibly they could use a few of what we used to call "Human Factors" engineers. Anyway, thanks for your kind words and glad I could help. That's why I do these.

I use only "Save as" and I do not dare to use save new version"

That works too. Anything that gives you a fallback in case something gets messed up or disappears is a good habit.

@@jhughsPresonusStudioOneTips I often record in comping, and copy the track complete and work on the copy. Studio One is king.

The fact that a version isn't aware that other versions might share audio files is tremendously stupid. All these options seem more like a fancy (and useless) form of 'Save as', unless I didn't understand them. In Logic, if you save alternate versions they are aware that other versions are sharing audio files and the delete unused files does NOT delete them, as it should be.

I'll take a look at that. The main thing for me was realizing that the unchecked option really is a snapshot. Under that condition, I would expect the Remove Unused Files option to ignore earlier snapshots. For alternate versions, I can see where keeping a DB of used files across several versions would be helpful, but, on a PC, I can imagine people doing backdoor operations that could corrupt the DB. Yeah, I'd have to find someone who knows the thought process behind those design choices.

To be fair, the suggestion to use the Incremental Version for Alternate Versions is my suggestion, not Studio One's.

it’s their fault it’s so unintuitive
@jhughsPresonusStudioOneTips7 ай бұрын
Thanks. It could also be possible that I still don't understand how it was intended to be used. But yeah, I would add the word "snapshot" to the non-incremental version option. The incremental version may have been meant to be used as increments by saving before you make the changes, but I agree with you, it's a tricky concept.
